Dear PicoCTF followers,

It has been the honor of my life to work with the amazing picoCTF team, which includes Lorrie Cranor, Hanan Hibshi, Megan Kearns, as well as my colleagues, Logan O’Brien, Dante Cannestra, Aadi Jain, Gaurav, and Taylor McCampbell.

I am beholden to everyone I interviewed in our series. Their generosity in sharing expert advice, experiences, and lessons learned are very much appreciated.

Having worked as the RA, interviewer, and social media person for picoCTF has enriched my life in so many ways. It is my hope that during our time together, we at picoCTF were able to share content that added value to your treasure trove of cybersecurity knowledge.

Thank you very much for all your support, feedback, likes, and appreciation for every content we shared.

And as I graduate on May 10th, I will cherish this time together and forever hold the memories in my heart. I promise not to say goodbye. Hopefully, we will touch base again somewhere, sometime soon.

Please remember to follow CyLab Security Academy, as picoCTF is transitioning to this new platform.

Best of luck to all! Let’s keep the momentum going, and make cybersecurity fun!

Sincerely,
Dani Wicklund

During Pittsburgh’s #midnightsuntour VIP Experience, Dani Wicklund from picoCTF had the opportunity to ask the following question:

“Social media has made girl culture more visible, but has it made it better? What is one thing you would change about it to protect young girls?”

🌟 Creative Thinking is a Superpower 🌟

“Creative thinking is the other side of the brain. Tech has this stigma of being cold and logic-based, but with AI handling the heavy-duty stuff, there’s more room for good design, creative thinking, and understanding how to think outside the box.”

This is Perly Dahan (@_shark_byte): former top Pinterest artist, now cybersecurity competitor and startup founder.

She didn’t leave creativity behind when she switched from art to tech. She brought it with her.

Because attackers think creatively. So defenders need to think creatively too. They need to be a step ahead.

The sensation of creating something that helps people? That exists in art AND in tech.

Your “non-traditional” background isn’t holding you back. It’s giving you an edge that AI and logic alone can’t replicate.

Don’t dim your creativity to fit into tech. Bring it in and watch what happens 🦈✨

The Tab Hoarder POV: You finally solve a CTF challenge 🦈

500 tabs open. Burp Suite running. VM spinning. CyberChef doing its thing. Terminal screaming. Docker containers everywhere. Spotify blasting in the background because apparently you need a soundtrack to decrypt things.

Then you get the flag. The box turns green. Jeopardy style. And you get to close ALL THE TABS.

Pure. Unfiltered. Dopamine.

For exactly 30 seconds.

Then you click “Start Instance” on the next challenge and boom!!! 500 tabs again.

@_shark_byte on the CTF lifestyle: This is chaotic neutral. This is home 🫡
