I stopped looking at car photography as just taking pictures and started looking at it as a business. 🏁📸

Because being good with a camera is one thing. Learning how to build a brand, find clients, create opportunities, and actually make money doing what you love? That’s a completely different game.

I had to stop thinking like just a photographer and start thinking like a business owner.

Here are 5 things that changed the way I approach photography and ultimately helped me build Source Media.

Some photographers won’t agree with all of these, and that’s okay. 👀

Which one do you think matters most?

Being known as the person who takes good photos is great. But likes, tags, and free entry to car meets aren’t a business model.
I wanted to build something that actually generated income, created opportunities, and gave me a future beyond the next shoot.

Everyone wants their car to look good online. But a viral clip means very little to a business if it doesn’t help create customers, demand, or brand recognition.
I started looking beyond the photo: strategy, storytelling, audience growth, and what happens AFTER the post goes live.

There’s a difference between shooting for the love of cars and being expected to provide your skills, equipment, time, editing, and experience for exposure.
Passion is what got me started. It isn’t a reason to undervalue my work

I wanted recurring clients, long-term relationships, and a business that could grow beyond how many hours I could physically spend behind a camera.
That’s why I started building a media company instead of relying on one-off photography gigs

I didn’t want every opportunity to depend on me personally showing up with a camera.
I wanted to build a brand, create opportunities for other creatives, work with automotive businesses, and turn what I loved into something sustainable.
That’s the difference between having a photography hobby and building a business.

That’s why I built Source Media.
