Curaçao may be a small island of 158,000 residents, but Curaçaoans have an outsize impact in New York.

Here, the diaspora gathers the same way it does back home: friends, cousins, neighbors, friends of friends. Everyone knows someone who knows someone. One island. One family.

Curaçao is a place shaped by movement. A crossroads of the Caribbean where languages, cultures, and histories have blended into something uniquely its own. That mix isn’t just its history, it’s its identity.

Qualifying for the 2026 World Cup was bigger than football. It means being recognized. Being seen.

Their tournament may be over.

But for Curaçao fans, this was never a story of defeat.

They already won.

This video is produced by @storylinemedia, which the City of New York has announced today as Public Artists in Residence (PAIR) for New York City’s celebration of the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Through their residency, which is coordinated through @nyculture in partnership with @nycmayor, Storyline is continuing work on “One World, One Game,” a series of short films and photography capturing how New Yorkers live, welcome, and celebrate the tournament across the five boroughs.

You know I indeed think there was no better century to stay in than this century. We have everything at the palm of our hands. I was sitting yesterday on one chair and I zoomed with work, homeschooled my kids, ordered a box of vegetables all at the same time I was "WhatsApp-ing” (if that’s a word) with 5 girlies of mine. #quarantine ⁣#lifeintimeofcorona ⁣

My dear co-humans, we have everything. We have Netflix, skype, social media, delivery at home, online shopping, online magazines, online courses, online everything, work from home, homeschooling. We even have the New York Metropolitan Opera with free live streaming!!! We can stay in. We can do this. We can read learn and broaden our horizon! We are so damn lucky to have #all of these options. We live in a perfect time to STAY IN #broadenyourhorizon⁣ ⁣
My curiosity is how the world will look like after all of this. #useyourtimewisely
