@vaticanshadow @polarinertia_ x @___acronym___ @michael_idehall x vromb • shouts @ant_zen records vromb x @_sylvans @plebeian.biz @polarinertia_ x Richard H. Back in Halifax after two incredible weeks as a Performance Fellow at Nief-Norf! I’m so grateful for this experience, and to be part of a community I’m already looking forward to working with again soon. Over the last two weeks, I performed more than a dozen works covering world premieres, faculty compositions, contemporary classics, and collaboratively created pieces, including: - Three world premieres for mixed chamber ensemble, developed collaboratively with composer fellows through unique creative processes - Julius Eastman’s “Stay On It”, approached through recordings, writings, and discussions of Eastman’s artistic practice, and shaped through collective decision-making - Works by faculty composers, including Chelsea Loew’s “Opia” (I got to play crystal glasses!) - Spoken text works that expanded my artistic practice, including John Cage’s “Story” from Living Room Music and Nicolee Kuester’s ‘Klang’ In between rehearsals and performances, there was no shortage of other opportunities: - Learned from presentations on higher education, performance careers, burnout, and building and sustaining professional ensembles - Took part in workshops exploring contemporary improvisation and deep listening - Attended the SYNNERGY conference featuring composer presentations, faculty showcases, and scholarly research - Co-created two new works for the NORFFED Composition Challenge, embracing experimentation and absurdity - Connected with the local community through a live radio broadcast as well as a full day of performances and activities for Make Music Day Feeling exhausted and recharged at the same time! Looking forward to seeing where this leads next! Pro photo credits to the amazing media team, @austintaylormedia and @writingsfromalex @niefnorf #nnsf26
