this saturday we celebrate 10 years of my brother TMACK. we’re doing it big this year for my mans as we get to shut down the block at Berkeley Skate Park in his honour.

@_t93rd passed away on 15th street in 2016. he got caught in crossfire at a party celebrating with our homies. Tee was all about music , art , skating; none of that violent shit. so to lose him was an absolute tragedy. he was definitely the fuel to our movement.

T Mack was one of the founders of @levanguard. He helped throw our first party at what is now known as 7th West in Oakland. This warehouse wasn’t a venue until our crew came along. @foooly && i had to sway the owner of the parking garage/bike warehouse to fw us on some art + music shit. After much convincing, we were locked, and spent plenty a night meeting up plotting this warehouse show. I remember one night parked at Pano, in the middle of the backseat of my hotboxed Nissan Altima was T, scribbling notes and yellin at us to get our shit together. 😂 A few nights before the party, a couple of us including T Fooly Lo Shreddy & I (+ maybe some RTG guys or steviebo) pulled up to the back of Lucky’s to gather some unused pallets to make a stage. And alas, Calm Waters was born. That night, torrential downpour couldn’t stop us. We had that bih PACKED. Valid, as we had a dopeass lineup of musicians and projection artists. It was an amazing time, the birth of the beginning.

10 Years later, we still miss you Terrence. We’ve devoted much of this movement towards you! Anything art , music, skateboarding event related can be attributed to you! Le Vanguard moves with the same passion and fervor as you had from the beginning. Still dedicated to doing cool shit, new shit, weird shit, and being at the frontier. 10 Years later we’re going strong. We love and miss you dearly.

I hope to see you, friends! Come hang this Sat, as we continue to rejoice in his legacy. Long live T MACK! #MACKWORLD #BADBADBAD #NOT4U

In August of 2016 beloved skater and artist Terrence “T-Mack” McCrary Jr. was killed after being struck by a stray bullet at a party in downtown Oakland.

In the years since, Florence (@mamaflowitlove) McCrary’s effort to honor her late son has led to the renaming of a skatepark in West Berkeley and added to the national conversation about gun violence in America.

On Saturday September 13th people will gather for the 9th annual T-Mack Skate Jam at the skatepark in West Berkeley, which was officially renamed the Terrence McCrary Jr. Skate Park earlier this summer.

Ahead of the event I talked to @mamaflowitlove about the support she’s gotten from family and community members, as well as what can be done about gun violence in America.

Long live T-Mack.
