2 years in the @northpointresidency, and it has come to an end.

These years stretched me in ways I didn’t expect.

I came in wanting the platform. I wanted to grow as a communicator, to preach more effectively, and I wouldn't have said it out loud, but for my "giftings" to be seen. I was told to be patient, and I tried to be and over time, the opportunities came.

In my second year, I found myself on stages I used to dream about. I saw more impact on my community and people around me than I ever imagined.

And somewhere in the middle of all of it, I felt empty.

What I’ve learned, and what I pray stays with me is this: the stage is empty without His presence.

It was never about me.

I’m grateful for the people who poured into me, challenged me, and walked with me through this season.

Now once again I'm trying to sit in patience awaiting my next placement, and despite any fear that may arise I understand that he will work in his timing.

“For what does it profit a man to gain the whole world, and forfeit his soul?”

~ 05.03.2026 BORN AGAIN ~

Hi, my name is Mia DeBusk.

Ever since I was little, my parents poured into my faith: taking me to church, teaching me about Jesus, and guiding me with grace. I felt God close to me because of the communities I was surrounded by. I decided to follow Jesus, but I didn’t realize the ideas I had to give up to follow Him fully.
I’ve always been a competitive person. I had put a lot of effort into any activity I did because I wanted to perform perfectly. Perfection quickly became a bare minimum for me. The expectations I had for myself were unattainable. I’d constantly compare myself to my friends and teammates, holding both of us to my own standards of judgment.
Shortly after covid, my family moved, but I never found a good small group that I felt like treated me as more than just a number. After sophomore year, I gave up trying because it felt like any church I went to was my “friend’s thing.” I didn’t feel like I had a place to bring my sins and questions. My faith quickly resided in the people I was surrounded by; it wasn’t something I searched for on my own.
I knew that God called me worthy, but I never felt that. I was always scared that if I didn’t perform to my best abilities, people wouldn’t like me as much, so I began to put my identity in how hard I worked. It wasn’t until last spring that I asked God for a change of heart. I looked at the people close to me, and I realized they didn’t expect me to be perfect. I realized I wasn’t created to be.
At the end of the summer, a coworker of mine invited me to HMIO. It wasn’t a place to hang out on a Sunday night, but a family that supports one another and shows up when they’re asked. I’ve been taught how to have grace with myself and lean on other people.
I want to thank my parents, friends, small group, and Brooke for showing me more love and support than I could ever ask for.
I want to be baptized to let everyone know that I am a child of God, called worthy and loved. Because of Him, I am forever free!

Here are the three biggest takeaways from my last two years in the North Point Residency Program.

1. Be surrounded by people who will make you a better you. Iron sharpens iron!!!!!! & when I say be surrounded, I mean on all sides. I’ve never been in a place where I’ve had so many people who wanted to pour into me, not to get anything from me, but to help me get to where God wanted me to be, while also helping to shape and mold me along the way. My mentors, friends, coaches, leaders, & family have been the greatest blessings. Community is everything.

2. This goes along with #1, It’s not about what you accomplish, but who you become. I will never forget when one of my Mentors said to me, “Ava, when you get to the end of this program and look back on those two years, what do you want to be able to say? Will it be about what “you’ve done” (in parentheses because it’s really what God’s done) or who you became. This was the moment when my entire perspective shifted. It wasn’t about what I was gaining or what I would “accomplish,” it was about the kind of person and leader that I hoped to become one day. It was about what I could GIVE.

3. Lastly, it’s about people. Yes, it’s hard work, yes it’s a job that many of us get paid to do, and YES the Church is a messy place full of broken people. But we GET to do this. We get to be God’s vessels to love His people. We get to be a witness to SO MUCH life change. Getting to do life with and for God is the greatest gift I’ve ever been given and I wouldn’t trade it for the whole world.

I will forever be thankful for these last couple of years and the impact it has left on me. I am more free, more healed, restored, renewed, and grateful than I have ever been before. God’s plan for your life will ALWAYS be better than anything you could imagine for yourself. His love is the greatest gift.

I am deeper in love with the Lord, deeper in love with the Church, and I love my people more than anything else in this whole wide world. Here are as many places and people I could fit in a few pictures that have helped to change me for the better. I’m grateful for the people and places that became Home to me 🤍.
