reflecting on 8 years of the thrifted threds (!!!)

8 years ago today i started this account and i was already 5 years into content creation and loving it but something really clicked and shifted when i started this account - the main thing being COMMUNITY!!!!!! I love you guys so much, the thrifty community truly is the crème de la crème and I could not be more grateful for all of the wonderful people I’ve met over the years 💘

i’m so grateful that it all comes from when i started volunteering in a charity shop 13 years ago - without that I would have maybe never fallen in love with all things charity shops and then eventually make this account which has lead to the most pinch me moments that i wanted to reflect on today 🥹 i’m so lucky that this is just a small portion of amazing moments I’ve had during this time, all thanks to this account!!

i’m writing this from a london flat where i’m staying for the next week as i’m going to the london film festival as a press delegate which is also crazy to think, would have most likely never happened if it wasn’t for this account. WHAT A LIFE! everything in my life leads back to charity shops and I couldn’t be more grateful ❤️

so whether you’ve been here 8 years or 8 days or anything inbetween, thank you for being a part of the journey!! here’s to the next 8 i guess!!

I’ve been so honoured to work with barnardo’s a fair few times over the years and they are just the best 🥹⭐️

2023 - organising a preloved christmas shoot with my friends, just cause I felt like it 💅 wanted to show that you can sparkle sustainably at christmas!! ⭐️

2024 - being invited by mind for a preview of their @mindcharityshops x @netflixuk pop up charity shop which featured lots of props and costumes from Netflix shows I was in my element!

i last saw lily live in 2009 (swipe for the throwback pics!) at shepherd’s bush empire, capacity around 2k. If you’d told me that 17 years later I’d be seeing her again at the O2 with 20k others all lovingly singing her songs back to her, 14 year old me would not have believed you. biggest smile on my face last night!! 🥹

@lilyallen put on the genuinely the most incredible show last night, her mind, creativity and talent are off the charts actually 😌

and ofc the evening was made even more special getting to share it with my girls 🩷

we had the cutiest day doing a little thrift crawl in sittingbourne, faversham and whitstable and ended the day in the pub with chips and a pint - perfection 😌

Aaaah the OG mag has sold out, officially!! 💫

This green sheen guide - co-designed with the incred @yaldakesh + @mollyporteous - is a reimagined 00s teen mag with the visuals and attitude to match. There’s loads of scandal, flakey exes, an agony aunt, astrology, quizzes and freebies. And absolutely zero ads or shopping guides - as if! Designed for babes who give a f*ck, it exposes the real fashion sins (exploitation - not skinny jeans) that traditional media loves to ignore.

The tea is it was supposed to be a one-off… until everyone started asking when the next issue was coming out and how to be a part of it! So NBI became something bigger: More hot takes. More community events. More mags with more contributors, interviews + photoshoots.

The next issue is shaping up to be iconic and it’s all thanks to you! So ty to everyone who bought, bookmarked and raved about the first mag, to the dream team who helped put it together and to everyone who hung out IRL. Thanks to your support, 10% of the proceeds were donated to @giveyourbest.uk + @thesameerproject <3
