~ Kassel ~ part 1.

This part of our story is a special one, as we've mentioned many times before our lovely friends really went all in, in making our holiday amazing, "The guest is king," Lara noted at one point when we thanked her once again for her generosity during our stay.

Groggy from a train journey and the jetlag still remaining from our flight I (Szmek) and Lara embrace upon arrival at the Kassel train station.

We knew a few facts of what was to happen next.
1. We'd meet Lara's partner Barak
2. We would get to pat and meet their cute companion animal Lunar.
& 3. They lived in a small town outside of the main city.

So onwards we went, darkness enclosed the outside of their car, and we chatted away, catching up and reuniting/getting to know them more.

As they drove the city-scape started to change, buildings became more scarce and the forest started to line the roads more densely.

We asked about the types of wildlife we might get to see - boars, squirrels, deer if we're lucky - unaware of anything that we may find (spoiler alert we only saw birds).

The behaviour between Lara and Barak went from chatty to whispery and curious sounding, unbeknownst to us the first suprise was awaiting us.

After the conversation about wildlife they revealed their master plan. "You know of Brothers Grimm?" Lara asked us excitement bubbling. "Sure we know of them" she goes on to explain they started in Kassel and we were to stay our first night in a mediaeval Inn with a Brothers Grimm themed room.

The stay was so fun and quirky and we couldn't believe the crazy arrangement of vegan breakfast pictured above they provided (yes all of it was vegan), which was shocking as the inn was far from a vegan friendly place in terms of their specialties or decor.

The village was small, quaint and frosty, the closest we came to snow in Europe.

Over looking the area a castle ruins and our journey that continues.

From Frankfurt to Cologne, an ode to Germany and all their cities and towns and people and dogs!

Wow almost half of our Europe adventure was in this country! The OG of Christmas markets and Boi were we spoilt for cute Christmas markets 🏫🏘️🌲✨

We really have had the most wholesome and magical time in each place we visited, our top being Kassel and Köln aka Cologne.

My lovely sister from another mister, her partner and their fur baby toured us around most of the places we went to minus Berlin!

We made friends, humans and non-humans 🐶

Spoke to lovely vegan workers at various vegan eateries!

Experienced a good mix of old and new, history and art.

Got frosty and stayed cosy!

What would you want to do if you visited Germany?

Our adventure begins in the sweet frosty country of Germany/Deutschland.

But rewind 8 years ago now.

~~~~~ ⏰
Szmeky meets up with her sister from another mister, in the country Lara was born and raised in, Germany. After Italy Szmek and her mother had met up with Lara in Munich and they all wandered the Christmas markets, got lost on an adventure, found themselves in Austria and drank mulled wine in the gingerbread towns.
Szmeky fell in love with the season, the place, the people and most importantly desperately wished the few days was a lot longer.
So 8 years later David and Szmek decided it was time to return, he wanted to see nan for Christmas in England and Szmek thought what better opportunity than to show him the magical festive world of Germany.
~~~~~ ⌚

NOV-DEC 2024

The two vegan time travellers enter Frankfurt and begin their much needed and anticipated holiday. Only to be completely awestruck with wanderlust!

They meet up with the beloved friend and new friends too Lara, Barak & lil miss Lunar. The 5 explored different towns and cities together.

Lara and Barak spoil Szmek and David beyond what anyone could want or need with a special night in a mediaeval inn, a bedroom themed around The Brothers Grimm, presents, presence, tours, activities, food, love, markets and all things wonderful!

The couple are now beyond grateful for this amazing start to their holiday and look forward to sharing the specific quirks of each place within Germany they explored and experienced together.

~Kurz Trip - Nordsee~
