SALAA, con el apoyo de Graham Foundation, presenta Future Stares Back, un taller impartido por Jennifer Chen (SCI-Arc) que invita a reconsiderar los límites de la práctica arquitectónica y explorar nuevas formas de imaginar y construir mundos posibles.

Convocatoria abierta para 15 estudiantes de arquitectura, cine, arte, diseño y disciplinas afines.

Excited to be able to bring an incredible team to the Borderless Pavilions Initiative for AIA26.

A temporary design village of ideas at the intersection of architecture, art, and community, exploring the evolving relationship between San Diego and Tijuana through small scale installations with big conversations.

Each installation is a reflection on connection, identity, culture, borders, collaboration, and the spaces in between. The installations will be available for viewing starting on June 12.

What happens when architects, creatives, students, non profits and community voices come together to build something temporary that sparks lasting dialogue?

Extraterritorial Ecologies — a glimpse into our recent exhibition at SALAA, featuring work by Architect Rudy Argote during the Synthetic Landscapes program at @sciarc.

An alternative reality for the Tijuana–San Diego estuarial border landscape. Looking at the border as a world-producing object, a vessel that absorbs not just ecological tensions but political, social, and technological, between north america and south america overflowing to spill a weird spectrum of realities.

Grateful to have shared this moment with friends, collaborators, and colleagues.

Como parte del inicio de actividades de la Semana de Arquitectura 2025, contamos con la participación del Arq. Rudy Argote, egresado de la Universidad Iberoamericana Tijuana, quien presentó la conferencia “Ecologías Extraterritoriales”.

Siendo el proyecto final de su maestría en SCI-Arc (@sciarc), el arquitecto presenta una realidad alterna donde la naturaleza reclama un espacio post-fronterizo, en un intento de replantear el acercamiento que tenemos con la frontera y la arquitectura.

Synthetic Landscapes Explorations Pt.1 @sciarc

An alternative reality for the Tijuana/San Diego divide, where the estuary meets the Playas de Tijuana neighborhood. It is not a fixed solution but a reframing, an attempt to construct a weird scenario that allows us to defamiliarize the border, so we might approach and think about it in a new way.

Within this landscape emerges the extraterritorial garden, a reimagining of Friendship Park, once a place where people met their relatives who could not cross into the U.S., speaking through the steel bars of the border wall. A tragic arrangement we have normalized just as we have accepted the wall’s disruption of ecosystems, and so many other systemic conditions where the well-being of our planet’s inhabitants is treated as secondary. The garden itself was once a bullfighting arena, a theatre for human exceptionalism and violence. Through the slow work of nature in reclaiming this space, it becomes a peaceful, enclosed microcosm. Surrounded by water, it belongs to neither the U.S. nor Mexico, operating under an outside nation-state logic, an ecological and relational space where encounters occur without mediation, and intimate human presence replaces surveillance.

A hint into a post-border world.
