I recently had the privilege of collaborating with some incredible South Asian artists from all across the world to celebrate traditional South Asian clothing.

This was particularly special to me because I distinctly remember first starting my artistic journey and feeling an imposter syndrome around South Asian art. I was scared that my South Asian community wouldn’t accept me me or like my work.

Meeting these artists (virtually) has been amazing and they are so supportive. They are all from different walks of life, some full time artists and some not. All are wonderful! I hope you enjoy their art!

Pictured here is the Ilkal saree, a traditional saree named from the town of Ilkal in Karnataka, Bangalore 🇮🇳. Ilkal sarees are woven with cotton and silk for the body and pallu respectively. I had so much fun learning a little more about my Kannada culture while drawing this ❤️. I also enjoyed being able to connect and collaborate with some beautiful south Asian women on this! 🥰

🌸 A N A R K A L I 🌸

Here’s my favourite collaboration with some of my favourite South Asian Artists from across the globe.
It was themed as traditional South Asian Outfits and I decided to go with Anarkalis which is for sure a staple clothing in every desi girl’s wardrobe and I could never stop swooning over these ever.
This will always be my go-to choice for a comfort Indian ensemble and I enjoyed illustrating something that’s very close to my heart. 💕

About a month ago, I was wishing I could connect with more desi artists instead of just working in isolation without a sense of community.

I’m so grateful to have met these absolutely wonderful and incredibly driven artists and gotten the chance to collaborate with them on something that is so close to me-South Asian outfits.

Nauvari Sari: a traditional drape from Maharashtra, India using a sari that is nine yards as opposed to the regular six ;)
I associate it most strongly with the warrior women I saw in South Asian history/mythology (e.g Rani of Jhansi), who wore it because it allowed for more freedom of movement than a regular sari!!!

Paired up with a bunch of amazing South Asian artists on regional attire of South Asia for my second collab 🤩😍

Cotton Churidar with black leggings and a dupatta is a staple everyday casual look whenever I am back home. I love wearing this kind of outfit so comfy. For the jewellery, I tried recreating my necklace my grandma gave me as its one of the few I wear everyday along with jimikis because I love jimikis! Mehendi on the hands because I love wearing mehendi whenever we go back. Creating this makes me miss home ❤

I decided to collab again with some awesome South Asian artists. This is our traditional attires of South Asian culture collab. Go show them some love ❤

Kaju Katli 🤤 my favourite indian sweet. It is cashew based sweet and is thara maaru (another level!)
