“Everyone has a gift in their heart, and you never know when the right moment will come” 🤍

That’s what Rashid, the owner of Rich Collection Bella Italia in Shoreditch, believes.

His story took me back to my own father, who ran a wholesale business nearby in the East End from the early eighties to the early noughties, when the area was buzzing with immigrants making their way.

For more than three decades, Rashid shared his love of quality Italian leather shoes, bags and accessories. After some tough years, social media via his daughter Zineb helped a new wave of people discover the shop and the gift he’s been sharing all along.

A viral TikTok helped save her dad’s Shoreditch shoe shop 👠✨

As Rich Collection Bella Italia faced closure, a French influencer posted a Tik Tok and Zineb posted a video… the story blew up overnight and suddenly customers were queuing outside!

Now she’s helping her dad Rashid preserve his legacy while bringing a new generation through the door. We also discuss what happens after a viral moment and how to sustain those sales.

After 35 years + my mums shop closed down.
Honestly we were so worried for years about the situation heading closer for my mums shop.
BUT! With the power of social media my mums shop closed in its final 2 weeks with a fabulous bang and everything and more went to plan!

The support from my videos was and had always been incredible, we felt it every day while I was in the shop.

So yeah this is us in the big FT!

2 months after losing her job, Zineb Lazraq (@_zinebxx) posted a TikTok about her dad’s shoe shop. She wasn’t trying to save it. She just missed writing.

Rich Collection (@richcollectionbella), 34 years deep and one closing-down sign away from gone for good, is now the last shoe shop standing on a street that used to be full of them. This is the story of how one video from one daughter, one very hardworking dad, and a whole lot of Y2K nostalgia turned a closing-down sale into a comeback.

Some stories just capture your heart and this is one of them. From @_zinebxx losing her job, cut to just a month later making her Dad Richie’s shoe shop a viral sensation therefore saving it from closure - it’s a tale of love, determination and community. It that isn’t a true Trying is Winning story I don’t know what is! I’m so grateful that Zineb, Richie and Nawal were so generous with their time and energy. They just featured in VOGUE for goodness sake!
This story doesn’t stop here. We must keep supporting small businesses and treasure our high streets. I can’t wait to be able to shop The Rich Collection online very soon and for you all to be able to grab yourself the most iconic pair of shoes EVER.
