EXHIBITION / 02 OCT - 31 OCT 2026
Bundle of Keys by Maria Izabella Lehtsaar at @a.galerii vault

There’s no need for words to explain what you want; I can read it from your belt loop. Your keychain presses firmly against my right hip. I can feel its coldness through the fabric. It sends shivers all over my body.

In Maria Izabella Lehtsaar’s exhibition, carabiners become objects of desire. Metal clips familiar to builders, sailors and hikers began to be used as practical jewellery among working-class lesbians in the United States around 70 years ago.

JEWELLERY ROOM

25 – 27 September 2026

Friday to Sunday, 12–6pm
Free admission

Cloister, Convento dos Cardaes
Rua do Século, 123 · 1200-434 Lisbon

Jewellery Room brings together contemporary jewellery galleries, completing the Biennial’s exhibition programme and giving the public a chance to see up close — and buy — pieces by some of today’s finest jewellery artists. Lisbon has had contemporary jewellery galleries for more than thirty years, and a small but loyal and knowledgeable public, strengthened in recent years by the many foreign residents who have made Portugal their permanent home. The participating galleries — Portuguese and international — bring a selection of pieces in dialogue with the Biennial’s themes.

Participating galleries are invited to present one or more Portuguese artists as a way of promoting national practice. A-Galerii joins the event for the first time in 2026.
