Everyone wants to go viral. That’s exactly what too many marketing companies sell business owners.

The truth? Viral doesn’t always equal sales.

My marketing manager, @a.leestudios , created a video that hit over 236 million views. It was a funny clip of a chicken hitting a power line and it exploded. Businesses around the world copied it. It generated hundreds of millions of views… but it didn’t generate hundreds of millions of dollars.

Years ago, I also created @icejjfish “On the Floor” video. It went massively viral and opened some doors, but it didn’t suddenly turn into a money-printing machine.

Now compare that to the hundreds of videos @a.leestudios posted that reached 5,000, 10,000, or 50,000 people. Those videos consistently brought customers through the door, increased sales, and actually made businesses money.

If you own a restaurant, a food truck, or any local business, stop chasing vanity metrics. Chase content that builds trust, shows your product, answers customer questions, and gets people to walk through your door.

I’d rather have 10 videos that each bring in 20 paying customers than one video with 20 million views that nobody remembers tomorrow.

Views don’t pay your bills.
Customers do.
