i needed some time to sit with what i experienced on Sunday. i went to @missjillscott’s THTMC tour, her first tour in 11 years. it was important for me to see her cuz of the deep impact she’s had on me as an artist & Black woman.

August has been grief filled. the day before the concert marked 9 months since my first producer, bestie, big bro, & mentor Isaac’s transition. i’ve been crying all month, since he died it’s been hard to feel inspired to sing. Isaac was the first person in this city who made me feel safe in my artistry. he heard my voice & was on a mission to amplify it. he helped me break out of my small town girl shell & become confident in the gifts God has given me. he was also Ifashayo, a Babalawo, & he would’ve loved this album—especially Àṣẹ.

i went to the concert hoping to be inspired, to leave with melodies & harmonies in my mind. instead, i experienced healing. Auntie Jill & the entire band were singing, speaking, & playing directly to my heart. i cried, danced, & laughed! i got to meet the FREEMAN & see beautiful people i haven’t in awhile!

i wasn’t meant to be inspired but to be ministered to. the inspiration comes from allowing myself to ebb & flow with the tides of grief & gratitude. thank you Auntie Jill for reminding me that music can still reach me in places grief has made hard to access. i’ll carry this night in my heart forever! 🥹❤️‍🔥
