We’re officially onto ADVANCED tickets for #SSS2026.

And if you’re still wondering what exactly you’re getting yourself into on 18 October… 👀 here’s what:

Expect a fantastic line-up of short animation films made by filmmakers from right here in the region, a gaming corner in collaboration with @kuntacontent ,a Nairobi-based indie studio, featuring @hiruthegame , a 3D action-adventure game inspired by African landscapes, people and culture. 🌍🎮

Cool, right? You get to be among the first people to play it before it officially drops. 👀

Circling back on animation...

Animation has always played a central role in my artistic journey as I trace it back to the very first days when I picked interest in creative expression after watching Walt Disney animations as a kid. Fast forward decades later, I took a 3D Animation & Motion Design course through the support of Finn Church Aid on their Creative Industries project in Kenya.

Hey folks! 👋🏽 You know we’re always big on sharing knowledge and creating opportunities for creatives and filmmakers to learn from each other & from industry experts. And this year’s SSS Animation Edition is no different! 🎬

We’ve got a special SSS Animation Masterclass lined up, featuring two sessions:

✏🏽 African Character Design for Animation with Oli Manal Omayer @nervilas7 , Art Director and Animation Lecturer.
The session will explore how to create African characters that feel authentic, expressive and suitable for animation, moving beyond broad stereotypes and drawing on the specific cultural, personal and visual details that reflect the diversity of African identities.

🎬 GENESIS: From Animation Student to Working Professional with Joseph Raina @joseanimationstudios animator, filmmaker, trainer and co-founder of Jose Animation Studios. From building a portfolio that shows off your work to networking, pricing your skills and finding your place in the industry, this session will get into what it takes to go from studying animation to making it your career.

The masterclass kicks off at 10 AM on Sunday, 18 October, ahead of the main SSS Animation Edition event. Your ticket covers both the masterclass and the main event, so come ready to learn a thing or two, then stick around for all the other fun we have planned! 👀

📍 Shalom Guest House Grounds, off Ngong Road, Nairobi 📅 Sunday, 18 October 2026 ⏰ Masterclass starts at 10 AM

Student and community rates are available. Register via the link in our bio, and our team will follow up with the relevant ticket purchase details.

See you there!💛

Last week, @nervilas7 and I sat down our studio @pungulupaproductions / @freehandstudioske in Nairobi for an interview with @bbcnews #FocusonAfrica on the impact of generative AI on Animation in our context. Within the time constraints of the interview, we made every effort to go beyond the well-worn “advantages and disadvantages” binary discussion and shed line on the less visible power imbalance between the technology oligopolies from Silicon Valley and the rest of us who are coerced into adopting their technologies as a fait accompli.

Do you think generative AI is a net benefit to African Animation?
