I really enjoyed being part of the Artist Talk with @Niamh_Swanton yesterday at @thewaterfordgalleryofart. Thanks to Luke Currall and all the team there for hosting us.

The audience was mainly local art students and it was lovely to connect with them through sharing past projects including from my own time in college and beyond. Included here are past photographic capers. It was fun to reminisce about all the great folk I've had the pleasure of collaborating with in the past.

Ah well.

I'll be performing as part of the second @transgress.ie cabaret fundraiser later this month. I'm very excited for this one since Transgress do some great work and it's a class line up for the night.

September 1st I'm hosting my Queer/Disabled storytelling club The Rookery Stories at @a4soundsstudios so if you want to hear some storytelling or even tell some stories in a chill and welcoming environment please come join us!

Young Creatives Art Competition-Judging!

The gallery was awash with entries for our first art competition and exhibition for children 18 years and under which aims to celebrate imagination, originality and innovation and highlights the creative voices of children and young people of all abilities.

Some of our AMPLIFY Young Creatives (aged 18-30) were on hand this week to spend time looking and discovering the ideas and processes in the myriad of entries, which impressed and intrigued the judges, making the process of selecting prize winners and Exceptional Talent Awards selected in each category nothing short of challenging.

We are so grateful for all of the children and young people who entered across the island of Ireland from Cork to Down and Tipperary to Armagh, and those on our doorstep in Drogheda, across Co. Louth, Meath, and Dublin. Committed parents and community leaders, art teachers and others helping to get the entries into the gallery in their droves by post an by hand.

Prize winners and Exceptional Talent Awardees will hear from us by post (or by email/depending on the entry form) by the end of this week - Thursday 24th July.

The Young Creatives Art Competition focuses on themes of identity and the environment under the title - Me, my place, our world and the exhibition which will run from Saturday 8th August – Saturday 31st October 2026.

The AMPLIFY adjudication panel includes artist-creatives Moya Gibney, Kat Lawlor, James Moonan, Eden Munroe, Caoimhe Murphy, Diarmuid Woodcock, illustrator, designer and writer Czacarri Muli, and art and design student Belle Hennessy.

This new initiative of this highly regarded gallery has garnered important financial and strategic support in sponsorship from dynamic businesses - McKeever Tallan Solicitors, McEvoy Craig Accountants, O’Reilly Thomas Solicitors, and Markey Minogue Coyle Solicitors – who are inspired by pioneering creativity and supporting Highlanes Gallery in this exciting venture.

it was such a privilege to be invited to the Dublin Theatre Festival 2026 programme launch breakfast this morning and to share a room with so many artists, activists, journalists and community organisers who believe in the power of storytelling!

as someone who has attended this festival for years, being welcomed into this space felt incredibly meaningful. What stayed with me most was the reminder that theatre is never just entertainment: it is a place where we can hold grief, joy, resistance, discomfort, imagination and hope all at once.

in Ireland, the arts continue to shape how we understand one another, challenge injustice and imagine more liberatory futures. But that work is only possible when our stages genuinely reflect the diversity of the communities they serve. Representation and inclusion are not box-ticking exercises; they are what make stories authentic, allowing lived experience to challenge assumptions, deepen empathy and create conversations that would otherwise never happen.

this year's programme feels especially committed to those urgent and necessary conversations, and I cannot wait to experience it. Public booking opens on 22 July 2026, with Friends booking beginning 16 July 2026, and the Dublin Theatre Festival runs from 24 September to 11 October 2026.

Looking back on The Patient Will See You Now and my residency at A4 Sounds as part of the We Only Want the Earth Project Award in 2020.

A4 Sounds currently has an open call for their artist residency, so if you are thinking about applying, I recommend it.

Working with them was one of the first times I felt able to be honest with an arts organisation about the full extent of my access needs. Although the building itself isn’t fully physically accessible (a Dublin classic), they were really open to figuring things out with me. They were flexible in ways I didn’t even know were possible, including helping install the exhibition over Zoom while I was in bed.

The Patient Will See You Now was an interactive installation and one-to-one performance exploring the inadequacies and absurdity of accessing healthcare in Ireland. The work questioned the bureaucracies that oppress those who fall outside narrow definitions of what is considered “normal,” “valuable,” or “productive.”

The project was created as part of the We Only Want the Earth Project Award, in partnership with Fire Station Artists’ Studios, Dublin Central Housing Action, and consulting artist Kerry Guinan, with the support of the Arts Council.

This residency shaped so much of how I think about access, care, and what becomes possible when organisations are willing to listen.
