1961 La Chapelle ~ drank this various times over the last 15 years; it delivers great pleasure everytime. But this most recent bott tasted last month was absolutely immense. Spellbinding complexity, with a kaleidoscopic burst of flavors: candied plums, soy, cherry tart, exotic spices; unwavering & insatiable with every sip. Procured with impeccable provenance from the esteemed cellar of the late Dr NK Yong. A superlative bott enjoyed in the fantastic company of great friends from HK & Taiwan. Amongst the best red wines tasted this year 🫶🍷💥

3 X Corton Charlemagne thru the ages🔥🔥🔥

Domaine Leroy CC 2007 ~ crazy floral aromatics, popcorn, sensuous white sesame with that reductive spark, all the elements that make Madame’s magical concoctions so irresistable 🫶

Coche Dury CC 1997 ~ deep flinty purity, daisies, bergamot; multi-dimensional complexity on the palate; good without being great✨

Millemann CC 2018 ~ fascinating on the nose, blooming white lilies, lemon meringue immersed in buttery essence; crisp angular acidity; this will benefit from a few more years in the cellar👍

Ch Mouton 1939, served blind by our ever generous host ST, this was still showing admirable signs of life & vigour as it approaches 90 yrs old; dried earth, medicinal herbs, sauteed mushrooms, a little short & lean on the finish, but a decent drink, and better drink up now🍷

Jayer Cros Parantoux 1992 ~ sweeping bouquet full of evocative rusticity, sous bois, genteel vosne spices, the ebb & flow of energetic dark cherries; still well endowed with the lingering touch of soft caressing tannins🍷💥

1945 Ch Lafite ~ Tasted in Plenitude Paris a couple of months back at a crazy lunch organised by Francois. Tenderly aromatic with dried tobacco & musty leather, this had all the hallmarks of a well aged 80 yr old claret: earthy herbs, coffee beans, a finish that radiates ephemeral finesse & bittersweet tranquility. Very enjoyable indeed👍🍷

Vertical iconic botts of Ch Margaux 🍷♥️

83 ~ youngest from the lineup, creamy leather tones, coffee beans, mushrooms; elegance personified

82 ~ a usual crowd favourite, well structured but with tannins completely resolved, silky berry fruits, long long finish

49 - incredibly fragrant, earthy truffled complexity, soy, bitter choc, beautifully mellowed & balanced; my personal fav from the lineup💥

48 ~ slightly flaky & volatile at the start; settled down nicely after 15 mins aeration, hint of sultanas, moss wood; a decent drink

Mugnier Musigny x 2 ✌️✌️

1990 ~ not a big fan of pre-1999 Mugniers, rustic & heavily extracted, plum tart, dark brooding density; not to my liking😐

2011 ~ much preferred this than the 90, sensuous potpourri nose, silky cherries, wonderfully balanced mid-palate intensity with a juicy inspiring finish🍷👍

2017 DRCs ~ A mixed experience from a well-known Parisien restaurant. Cortons were very effusive, candied floral sweetness, with just the right amount of depth & soft engaging tannins. Echezeaux Magnum was equally approachable, cherry tart, revved up with signature stemmy spices. The LaTache Magnum was where the trouble began. It was flawed with slight cork taint, so we wanted to reject it, but the Somm and restaurant owner wouldnt agree, so in the end we “settled” with them by paying for the flawed LaTache and they offering us a “free” additional bott of Rayas 2012. Well, win some lose some 🤷🏻‍♂️🍷
