Delighted to see the beautifully layered home of friend @anniedowninginteriors featured by @houseandgardenuk. I love styling interiors brimming with color, fearless taste and personality. Annie’s family home in Austin TX particularly resonated with me: it’s chock full of bold pattern and texture, quirky architecture and china cupboards filled so tightly they barely close. Rooms We Love
A sitting room shaped by consideration rather than ornament.
Designed by @studio_squire for a cottage in the South Downs, this space began with relatively few original features — a reality that required restraint, not embellishment. By working closely with what remained, the room was gently refreshed to feel settled, calm, and entirely welcoming. It’s a thoughtful reminder that charm is often created through proportion, texture, and patience rather than period detail alone.

Tucked away in a quiet corner of south west France, among the lavender and cypress trees, sits a honey-toned bastide that looks like something from the pages of the H.E. Bates novel, Fair Stood the Wind for France. Yesterday was my official last day at @houseandgardenuk after a whopper of 7 years, which included one marriage, two babies, many shoots and innumerable utterly brilliant and bonkers times. It was a total unicorn of a job, perfect in every single way and filled with the absolute best people and I am so incredibly grateful to @hattabyng, @emilyseni0r and of course @ginnyemily for taking a chance on me all that time ago.

As for what’s next, I’m joining the team at @irbyrubinstein at the end of the month to give the other side of the business a whirl, alongside bothering editors with freelance writing pitches of course.

That’s officially a wrap on eight years at House & Garden - the best of times with the best of teams! I’ve been so lucky to have these guys as brilliant colleagues and really wonderful friends. There have been lots of spectacular highlights, mega trips and amazing shoots over my time at the magazine, but it’s the day to day hanging out with this lot that’s been the real joy. Thanks for giving me a following wind as I sail off into the freelance life 💨🫡
