In 2019, I was two years into my career, & still figuring out if I truly loved what I was doing. I had the passion for the work, but didn’t personally know if it was my purpose yet.

All of that changed when I walked into IS 49 for the first time in March of that same year. I was there to help set up the pilot Y Afterschool program along with my right hand @mrs.king2u__ & my brother @comatosedreamin , & we walked into a building that was completely misunderstood from the outside. How? The kids. & one of those kids who snagged my heart from the first week was @_annvann .

She was in 7th grade at the time, & instantly Vanni became one of my clear cut favorites. Why? She never hid or ran away from her potential, she only rose in it, year after year. From the crash outs in the Deans Office at 49, to the college acceptance letters shown to me in my office at Curtis her senior year, she reminded me of my why, every time. & now, she’s a fellow Curtis Alumni, rendering her #ForeverAWarrior .

@_annvann , you know how proud of you I am of your growth throughout the years, & this is only the beginning of your accomplishments. As I always told you, I’d be there for the ride until you got into college…& now that time has come. I’ll miss the daily check ins & the snacks you always took from my stash without asking because we both knew only you had that pull, or the moments when I’d walk into my office & you’d be mediating a session between fellow students unprompted, but the best is yet to come. You’ve always had a special place in my heart, this is how I say thank you. Enjoy the second slide! 😂❤️
