UNA VISITA SPECIALE
A Special Visit

We had the pleasure of hosting a delegation of students of the most prestigious Architecture Departments headquartered in London.
The objective of the visit was to illustrate how architecture and planning are part of unique environments such as the Venetian one.
Restoration, commission management, logistics, and planning were the key elements of the visit.
Sharing our experiences and creating discussion meetings on all levels is not only a moral duty, but also a source of personal and professional growth.

Thanks for visiting! @aaexchange @aaschool

The Architectural Association School of Architecture (AA London) visited Menorca last weekend with a group of 10 students and 3 tutors. Artchitectours guided them around the island, led by PHd Architect JE Villardel.
They wanted to focus on the city of Mahon and its contemporary art, the UNESCO sites and routes, and the cultural heritage all over the island.

AA VS Spring Semester Programme
MENORCA. ECOISLAND
@aaexchange @aaschool

Program head @naiaravegara

Menorca is a Balearic Island located east of Mallorca. It is an idyllic destination of blue sea coves and beautiful Mediterranean landscapes, a world renowned tourist destination. In 1911 the first hotel of Spain was inaugurated in this Island, Hotel Gran Mahón, opening up to modern tourism. From the 80´s Menorca began to promote sustainable tourism as an alternative to the mass tourism model that was developing in other parts of Spain. With this objective, initiatives were created to preserve the coast and the interior of the island, promoting the construction of low-rise hotels, the conservation of native flora and fauna and the development of environmentally friendly tourist activities.

A key objective is to maintain its natural beauty and cultural heritage. Unesco declared Menorca World Heritage site this September 2023. Prehistoric Talayotic monuments and its landscape make up an archaeological complex that has "an authenticity and exceptional value". We will explore opportunities for fostering sustainable activities and vocations that can protect and evolve the character of place to attract people to work, live and visit.

New cultural initiatives have been focused in the attraction of contemporary art activities such as the opening of Hauser & Wirth art centre in the natural environment of Illa del Rei (Isla del Rey).A project that transformed an obsolete military hospital, in an island by the city port of Maó to preserve cultural patrimony and promote art and education programmes.

Participants in the Spring Semester Programme 2024 will examine the environmental and the functional, the architectural and landscape typologies by analysing both tangible and intangible conditions of the context. Each student will develop their own brief to target specific design challenges that promote sustainable initiatives in their context.

Some urban drawings that I drew for Architectural Association semester program brief 02. It was about exploring Malaga through abnormalities using building footprints and building heights data. Abnormalities within urban footprints caused by different types of landmarks within Malaga also impacted the flow of circulation within the city.

The Neoclassical building, inspired by Italian Renaissance palaces, has a central patio that is porticoed.
The original roof was destroyed by fire in 1922, and in 2012 the building was rehabilitated as a permanent museum.
