What an inspiring day! 🌟 Thank you, Barbara, RN, MS, of the heart and vascular unit at @LuminisHealth Anne Arundel Medical Center, for visiting and informing @aacountyschools high school students on the many available roles, career opportunities, + benefits of working in health care!

"I really love the profession. I love the fact that it's so portable, that you can travel, you can always get a job, and there's so many opportunities," said Barbara.

Barbara also suggested volunteering in a hospital for a day if you're interested or thinking about a career in hospital care. 🌟🌟🌟 DM if you're interested!

#HERricaneMD just finished its last day! With an eventful week, our campers learned self-defense, were able to network with professionals in emergency management and public health, learned how drones work, and met our sponsor! Did you know that only about 5% of firefighters are women identified nationwide?

#HERricaneMD just wrapped up day 2 as our young women were learning crisis communications from local professionals in meteorology and communications, practicing public speech and collaborative efforts with each other. According to the World Meteorological Organisation (WMO), only 12% of jobs in meteorology-related fields in the U.S. are held by women.

Today #AnneArundel County launched our first in the state pilot program that makes up to two free gun locks available to adult residents at select library locations in the county. Beginning today, locks are available at the Glen Burnie Library, the Busch Annapolis Library, and the Eastport-Annapolis Neck Library.

While state law preempts local jurisdictions from imposing certain gun restrictions, this program is one of the ways we are working to save lives by mitigating the risk of gun violence. I want to thank the Anne Arundel County Department of Health's Gun Violence Intervention Team and Anne Arundel County Public Library for continuing to find innovative ways to meet the needs of our communities.

Research shows safe storage plays an important role in reducing the risk of gun violence, unintentional death, and suicide. The goal of this program is to mitigate the risk of harm or death by providing a free resource to gun owners that ensures firearms are secured.

The United States District Court has ruled in favor of an #AnneArundel County law established by Bill 108-21, imposing a requirement on gun dealers for the distribution of suicide prevention and conflict resolution literature.

The District Court’s decision ensures our residents have access to valuable suicide prevention and conflict resolution information when they purchase firearms.

Gun violence continues to plague our country and our communities. While the political debate in Washington continues, Anne Arundel County and our Gun Violence Intervention Team will continue implementing common-sense solutions that save lives.

I want to thank Everytown Law and our Office of Law’s legal team for their work on this case, the first of its kind in the country, which could pave the way for other jurisdictions to implement similar legislation. I also want to thank Councilwoman Lisa Rodvien for introducing Bill 108-21, the County Council for their unanimous support, and our Anne Arundel County Department of Health's Gun Violence Intervention Team for working to end violence through the exploration of data, good policy, and strong partnerships.
