POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

This year I am taking a closer look at my creative processes discovering what works for me and what I can find there.

When do I choose to show my work?
How do I choose to show my work?
How do I show up for my work?
When do I decide something is finished?
Where does a work start?
What circumstances do I need before I can go into a creative process?

This piece is the result of two weeks during which I asked myself a lot:
“How do I connect to my creative process?”

I tried to connect through many methods, but thought I had not been able to connect with a creative process..
At the end of my two weeks I did a reflection and realized I had felt present with myself playing long notes on the cello.

Being busy with “What is physically here?” “What resonates?” was already enough. I decided to stay with this process although there were many judgemental thoughts. Despite them I decided to allow myself to experience this process by doing.
With that decision, big scary creative questions became irrelevant and the cello became the focus point.

When the performance came around I had the great pleasure of working with @_zjuul_ who joined me at the end of this two week process. Zjuul could bring out layers of this magnificent instrument that I could not have reached on my own.

Thank you for acknowledging my work in progress which is my process. :)

The first picture was taken by my talented friend @aaldrikb_ 📸 on a sunny afternoon in October.

Credits for the cello to @yannanotterman who I had a great jam with on my last New Year’s Eve that lead to her borrowing me her cello and wanting to explore the instrument further. ♥️

Sem Kramer Birthday & The Flow, Vol. 1
Release Concert

On October 6th I’m marking two things at once: the release of my new album, The Flow, Vol. 1, and my 26th birthday. I wanted to celebrate both somewhere that felt right for the music: @keizersgrachtkerk , a beautiful church on one of Amsterdam’s oldest canals.

I’m entirely self-taught and read no sheet music. Everything I play is improvised live at the piano, moving between the classical and jazz legends who shaped how I hear music.

Before the music starts @mahi.meditates will lead a short opening meditation to settle the room into something quieter than a normal concert night. Then @marknieuwenhuisinsta joins me on stage on trumpet.

Whether you come for the meditation, the piano, the trumpet, or just an evening that’s a little different, young or old, this is about coming together in such a beautiful space to experience live music, and a moment of stillness, together.

Artwork made by @alexcovert.art during the studio sessions will be on display
