Leaving feels strange. Not because I’m not ready, but because I’ve lived so much here it’s hard to believe it’s really over.

Years ago, I landed in Louisiana with a few suitcases and no idea what was waiting for me. I didn’t speak the language, the culture was far from mine, and I didn’t know anyone. Yet, I built a life there. Made friends, faced challenges, found little wins. Slowly, I discovered a quiet version of me I didn’t know existed. Softer. Simpler. Tender. Someone who found comfort in the unknown.

Two years later, same story. I landed in San Francisco with TOO many suitcases 😅 and no idea what would happen next. I remember my first dorm. I hated it but somehow, it became the room where I laughed the most. I met people who changed my life. Some stayed, some didn’t. I danced at Coachella, went on road trips, and even slept in a tent. If you know me, you know how much I hate it.

I traveled alone. Got my heart broken, but also fell in love again when I thought I couldn’t. I’ve learned, I’ve hurt, I’ve healed. And I’m still learning. I wore the cap and gown. Got the degree I wanted. Rented my first adult apartment. Got excited over furniture. Had a breakdown when the washing machine broke (adulthood ig)😂

I’ve learned what independence feels like. Sitting at a restaurant alone without feeling anxious. Coming home to yourself. Finding a job. Dating yourself. Rebuilding in silence when no one’s watching.

I moved to Miami when life felt like it was falling apart. This city gave me light and hope to heal and grow, and find parts of myself I lost.

I’ll miss the girl I was in California. The one I became in Miami. And my 16-year-old self who made it through Louisiana. But I’m taking all of them with me.

To the people who were part of this chapter, thank you. To the places that felt like home, thank you.

It’s strange how something so intense, so real, can feel like a dream the moment you leave. A dream lived between open suitcases, a college dorm, and a tent in the desert. But it happened. Every laugh, every breakdown, every moment, they were real. And I carry them with me. Always.

Thank you America, for being my home. I’ll be forever grateful🫶🏻
