On 11th August, a High Powered Committee appointed by the Supreme Court met the urban stakeholders at PWD office in Gurgaon over the proposed 100 mtr definition of Aravallis.
98% of the gathered janta was up in arms against the need to define the Aravallis. The remaining 2% felt the need for a definition so that they get a clear picture on the status of their land.

The entire Aravalli Bachao team showed up in full strength at the meeting with each member shedding light on the different existing threats being faced by the forest. From landfill to encroachment to wildlife displacement. A definition would leave out the maximum number of hills further compounding the threats by giving a free hand to various lobbies. The Managing Trustee, ABCM, Col Oberoi went a step further and suggested that the Court puts a complete ban on mining in 99% of the Aravallis for atleast 6 months with only 1% remaining open, for the sake of national defense needs.

The Committee took note of the objections from all quarters and will be communicating them to the Supreme Court while it ponders over the proposal which is in abeyance currently.

Aravalli Bachao Citizens Movement hopes for a fair and reasonable outcome of the hearing.

Celebrating with Adivasis in Aarey | International Indigenous Peoples' Day
On August 9, 2026, Mumbai's Adivasi communities, including the Warli, Malhar Koli, and Kokna, came together in the Aarey forest for a powerful blend of culture and protest. A spectacular procession, accompanied by traditional Tarpa music and dance, passed through the forest. A tree-planting drive was also organized. The event highlighted the ongoing fight against eviction notices and emphasized the communities' right to identity and natural resources.

Let us amplify their voices for environmental justice and recognize them as guardians of this urban lung.
