17 years! All good things must come to an end! This weekend marks the end of @nemhawks. I often get asked “How on earth did you get into handball” … well, it was completely by chance back in 2009!!! , owing a favour to my high school PE teacher to be an extra body at a Teachers upskilling session on a lesser known Olympic sport - my school got handball. Little did I know that paying back that favour would quite literally change my life. Enter into the fold 2 incredible women @donnahankinson5 & @speckysue; who went onto form a team in Manchester off the back of 3 schools with a similar situation. Turns out we were pretty good, over the next 17 years we won pretty much everything you could win across all ages both men & woman. National titles, cups & beyond. + More than 250 young people owe a huge amount to these beautiful humans. Some of those 250 went on to represent England and/or Great Britain at youth + full international levels. But everyone of those kids left their time at nem hawks a better version than when they entered the sports hall for the first time. That is a credit to Donna & Sue! I personally have met so many people that to this day hold close friends. I have travelled with, lived with, won with, lost with, partied, danced, celebrated weddings & childbirths with people from this journey. Jesus - some of us got to work at London 2012 because of it. All of that because 2 brilliant & strong willed women decided “fuck it, let’s start a handball club. What an achievement! 17 years! One hell of a journey! I won’t be there for the finale but it’s been my pleasure having been there from the start! #NemHawks #DoItInTheAir
