Sleep apnea doesn’t have one look.

It shows up in thin people, in women, in kids, and in people who barely make a sound at night. Jaw shape, airway size, nasal congestion, age, and genetics can all play a part, not just weight.

The signs most people miss:
Waking up exhausted after a full night
Morning headaches
Getting up to pee during the night
Brain fog or trouble focusing
High blood pressure that won’t budge

If this sounds like you, ask your doctor about a sleep study. You can’t fix what you don’t know is happening.

Send this to someone who’s always tired.

Best mattress. Blackout curtains. White noise. Still sleeping badly? The problem might be one number: your thermostat.

To fall asleep, your body has to cool down by 1–2 degrees. A warm room fights that signal all night long. Sleep researchers say about 65°F (18°C) is the sweet spot, which is cooler than most of us keep our bedrooms.

Bonus trick: a warm shower before bed helps, because your body cools off quickly afterward.

Heat’s coming on for the season, so tonight, try turning it down.

Trazodone is one of America’s most prescribed sleep aids and it’s not even approved for sleep.

Educational only — not medical advice. Never stop or change a prescribed medication without talking to your clinician.

It is wild that a fight over changing the clocks has escalated to the President publicly targeting a Senator.
But here we are. ⏰

I recently spoke with @thv_11 about the Trump/Cotton debate over the Sunshine Protection Act and the future of our clocks.

My take: We should stop changing the clocks twice a year, but permanent daylight saving time is not the answer.

From a sleep and circadian perspective, permanent standard time is the healthier choice. It better aligns with our biology, preserves morning light, and avoids the dark winter mornings that come with permanent daylight saving time.

The goal should not be more daylight at the end of the day at the expense of daylight when our bodies need it most.

Slide 2: Me learning this actually happened.

Slide 3: Me trying to understand how a debate over clock changes got here.

Thanks to @thv_11 for having me on to talk about the science behind the time-change debate.

🎃 Spooky October: Turn Scary Dreams into Brighter Stories 🌙
Nightmares can be spooky, but they don't always have to stay that way.
As part of our Spooky October content series, we're exploring Imagery Rehearsal Therapy (IRT), an evidence-based technique that can help reduce recurring nightmares by changing the story and practicing a new, safer ending.
In this week's carousel, we're breaking down the basics of IRT and how it works:
✨ Write the dream
✨ Change the story
✨ Practice the new version regularly
Because sometimes, changing the ending can help create brighter nights. 💙
Follow along with our Spooky October series for more mental health content that explores the connection between scary experiences, sleep, emotions, and mental well-being.
If recurring nightmares are affecting your sleep or daily life, consider speaking with a mental health professional about treatment options.

Insomnia is one of the most misunderstood sleep problems out there. Some of the “common sense” advice you’ve heard can actually make it worse. And if one treatment didn’t work for you, that doesn’t mean you’re out of options. Real insomnia deserves real care, not guilt.

Which myth surprised you most?

Melatonin is one of the most popular sleep aids out there, and a lot of people are using it in a way that won’t help them much.

It’s not a sleeping pill. It’s a timing signal that tells your body clock night has started. That’s why it can really help with jet lag or if you’re a night owl. For everyday insomnia, though, the effect is small. On average you fall asleep about 7 minutes faster.

A few things I tell my patients:
• What’s on the label isn’t always what’s in the bottle. Look for a USP Verified seal.
• More is not better. Timing matters more than dose.
• For kids, talk to your pediatrician first, and store gummies like medicine. They look like candy.
• If you need something every single night to sleep, that deserves a real look from a sleep specialist.

Swipe through for the science, and save this for the next time someone asks you about melatonin.
