📲 Digitorial Design 2024 📲 During the two-week module „Digitorial“ students transformed their previously analog print editorials into digital equivalents. The focus was on the narrative quality of the digital publications and the development of a compelling prototype. This prototype was intended to effectively leverage and demonstrate the potential of contemporary web technologies, particularly in terms of networking and interaction capabilities. Registered Signs. Module signs pictograms, 2nd semester Logos are important visual elements used to identify and promote a company or product. They are designed to be easily recognizable and memorable, and intended to represent a brand’s personality and values. Some logos, such as those of Apple, Coca-Cola, Nike, FedEx, and McDonald's, have become icons of popular culture and are instantly recognized around the world. As part of this course, new logos were developed inspired by well-known brands from different industries (REGISTERED SIGNS). The randomly assigned field of activity, such as entertainment, toys, high fashion, technology, travel or finance, formed the starting point for the development of the logos, for which extensive research and study of the industry and its history laid the foundation. In the creative redesign of an own brand logo, colors, shapes, typography and other design elements were analyzed, included and taken into account as well as the referencing and remixing of existing codes. Data Life – Modul Informationsdesign. 2nd semester students The students collected and analyzed data from their personal environment, supplemented it with open data and researched further information about their data set. They linked relevant parameters and determined a suitable visual design language to present the data and information in an infographic. In a further step they also translated it into an infoanimation. 1️⃣ A Collection of Design Books Vivien Pöhls (@gravivik) Alison Léger (@alisonleger_) 2️⃣ Crossing Borders Sarah Halbgewachs (@sarah.halbgewachs) Aatos Mononen (@aatosmononen) 3️⃣ Graffiti-Katalog Marc Iselin (@mark.izelin) Niclas Funk (@funksti11e ) 4️⃣ One Year Photography Stanislas Favre Praveena Srirathan (@praveenaax) Lecturer Cybu Richli (@cybu_richli) Assistant Silvan Possa (@silvanpossa)

The Manifest
Module Grundlagen Layout, 2. Semester In 2022, as part of the module "Grundlagen Layout", the photographs on the theme of the manifesto developed by the students in the previous Fundamentals of Photography module served as the starting point for an editorial to be developed. The students were asked to deal intensively with their own photographs, to relate them to each other and, if necessary, to supplement them with additional materials such as texts or further images. Brand x Mutualism – Brand & Identity – Identity Concepts for Collabs and Symbiotic Relationships. 2nd semester students "Mutualism" is a term from biology and describes a symbiotic relationship in which all participants benefit from different interactions. This type of "collaboration" between two or more parties was the content basis for the module. The aspect of collaboration has become significantly more relevant in recent years and shapes our everyday life more than we thought. What are the requirements for a brand collaboration to be successful? What are the intentions behind such collaborative behavior and who ultimately benefits from a symbiotic relationship? Collaborative strategies were developed in teams of two and unusual collabs were founded. For this purpose, the teams developed storytellings, which formed the basis for the explorations, identity concepts and final touchpoints to be developed. The project was open, experimental and speculative. –––––– Students Viviane Bettschart @vivianedominique Stanislas Favre Miles Fischli @ichmachsfischli Jelka Freivogel @vreifogel Niclas Funk @funksti11e Lois Grimm @grimmwerk Uma Malina Grotrian-Steinweg @umamalina Lia Grünig @liagruenig Nina Hitz @ninaizumi Marc Iselin @mark.izelin Ester Koval @_sunny_girl_ester_ Clara Kuhnke @clara.kuhnke Alison Léger @alisonleger_ Aatos Mononen @aatosmononen Vivien Pöhls @gravivik Valerie Rohner @valerie_rohner Lea Spiess @spiess.lea Praveena Srirathan @praveenaax Lisa Steiger @lisasteiger___________ Dennis Vugts @4444dennis –––––– Slide 1 + 10 Niclas Funk (Crocs) + Marc Iselin (Zwilling) Slide 2 Aatos Mononen (032c) + Viviane Bettschart (Caran D’Ache) Slide 3 Miles Fischli (Raf Simons) + Valerie Rohner (Diogenes) Slide 4 Jelka Freivogel (Mugler) + Vivien Pöhls (Kellogg’s) Slide 5 Lia Grünig (Skype) + Lea Spiess (Thonet) Slide 6 + 7 Nina Hitz (Kikkoman) + Clara Kuhnke (Cartier) Slide 8 Lisa Steiger (Disney) + Uma Malina Grotrian-Steinweg (FedEx) Slide 9 Dennis Vugts (UFC) + Lois Grimm (Maison Margiela) –––––– Lecturer @brandmelder Assistant @silvanpossa

FANTASTIC FUNGI This year again we had the great pleasure to host a two week 3D illustration course at the Zurich University of the Arts with students of @vc.zhdk. The students were tasked to develop a three-dimensional, visually abstracted fantastic fungi and to put it into a lively and playful virtual environment. The results were printed on a F4 poster format. Modelling: After a short research on the shapes of realistic fungi, the students sketched their own mushroom construct. The hand sketches were transformed into 3D objects in the software Cinema 4D using various techniques to generate volumes and meshes. Visualization: In the second part of the course, the modelled objects were staged in 3D. The focus was on finding a unique visual aesthetic of the created world. The students textured the fungis, they created different moods by playing with 3D lights and image compositions in the 3D layout.
