Two down, one to go.

Another five fantastic hardcore bands in Stoke for my second local gig in two days. At this rate, I might actually start appreciating not having to spend half my life driving up and down the M6.

As much as I loved - and still love - the bands from the mid-90s, there’s just something hitting differently with the ones I’m getting to see right now. The bands I’m catching seem incredibly proficient at what they do, and the standard of musicianship has really impressed me. That’s not to say the older bands lacked talent; there were plenty of great musicians back then, too. Perhaps I’m just seeing more of the current crop at a stage where they’ve really honed their craft, whereas some of those earlier bands were still finding their feet.

Maybe it’s simply a different era, or maybe I’m just looking at it all through older eyes. Who knows? Either way, it’s a bloody good time to be an older head still getting out there and discovering what the hardcore scene has to offer.

Asidhara - Asidhara.

Day two of the grand tour of Stoke-on-Trent, and the Welsh are coming!

The Underground is hosting a Welsh hardcore takeover this afternoon, with three of the five bands making the trip from the Valleys. That’s a serious amount of hardcore firepower heading across the border, and Stoke is in for a noisy evening.

I’m expecting plenty of noise, a fair bit of chaos and absolutely no shortage of hardcore spirit. Maybe even a Delilah for the Stokies?

As I’ve got nothing on vinyl from today’s combatants, something I’d intended to play later in the month gets a premature spin.

I was going to give the Asidhara album an airing when I was expecting to see them on Halloween in Camden. As I’m no longer heading to that particular event, today feels like the ideal opportunity to give it a proper listen instead.

Perhaps I need to dig out my Public Disturbance shirt for tonights gig?

Then again, it didn’t fit me properly more than a quarter of a century ago, so I’m not sure today’s the ideal time to put it to the test.

If I remember correctly, it was too short even back then.

Funny how these things never seem to get any better with age.

Public Disturbance are a band I’d have loved to see playing in Stoke all those years ago. Fortunately, I managed to catch them around England and Wales numerous times instead.
