Join us on Saturday the 22nd of August at 1:00 PM for our fourth Long Table Saturdays event, curated by Samia Naccash and featuring Dahlia Barakat!

About the workshop:
Zines have always been a way to publish outside the rules: cheap, fast, handmade, and passed around. No gatekeeping, no waiting around for permission, no need for polishing an idea before releasing it into the world.
There is something essentially political about making hundreds of copies with minimal resources and distributing them independently. Zine culture has historically given space to voices and ideas excluded from mainstream media, while building communities through exchange, DIY production and self-publishing.

For the first edition of Dafateer, bring your journals, cut-outs, old magazines, posters, photographs, writings, drawings, references, and obsessions. Let’s gather, exchange materials and ideas, and create together the first collective edition of Dafateer.

Workshop time: 2pm-4pm
Workshop fee: 10$

About the artist:
Dahlia is a rural designer, creative mama, lover of nature and speaker of land and place. Her practice moves between design, storytelling, publishing, and an ongoing interest in how people relate to land, materials, and each other.
Her practice is centered around making something from almost nothing: finding printing methods, making tools by hand, collecting fragments, archiving, and following ideas wherever they lead.

Dafateer grew from piles of unfinished ideas that usually live inside her journals. It is an attempt to release them into the world and let them circulate. The long-term vision is to build a small network of zine exchanges, meet ups and a library–keeping publishing accessible to all.

Everyone’s welcome–not just workshop participants!
