Today is Mothers Day and I’m dedicating this to all mothers as well as all those women who wished to be mothers but , for whatever reason , were unable.
Last summer, I went on pilgrimage to the most south westerly point of England, to traverse the sacred sites of ancient Kernow ( Cornwall ) One particularly special day was with dear Cornish sister @abbeymyners . We had already shared a special trip to Tintagel and this time, our destination was the stone circles , holy wells and dolmen of West Penwith. As the sun was setting , we reached Men-an-Tol , the extraordinary donut shaped stone you see below . It’s said to be 4000 years old !
Folklore surrounding the Mên-an-Tol standing stones in Cornwall, England, suggests that women seeking to become pregnant should crawl through the central holed stone seven times backwards during a full moon. This ancient site is associated with fertility, easy childbirth, and curing child ailments. Abbey and I held a ceremony here and I sang ‘Circle of Women’ . We literally felt the presence of spirit of so many women who had prayed here for millennia, all their hopes and dreams and aspirations, especially the young maidens praying to become mothers , circling us . It was a profound experience that remains with us still . Blessings and thanks to the Great Mother who sustains us all . #mothersday #circleofwomen #prayer #pilgrimage #sacredsites
