Many thanks to Digital Artist, Abby Assefa, presenting her series, Sexism in Comics and Other Work yesterday, 4/10, at Viewpoint Gallery.

By depicting male superheroes the way female superheroes are depicted in comics, Abby reveals and highlights the sexism and double standards in comics and in much of our society.

Abby is also a marketing and design specialist. You can see more of her work at www.abbyaart.com.

This events and others this week are in conjunction with Daniel Kerkhoff’s art exhibition and residency, Cover-ups and Remnants at Viewpoint Gallery, 4/7 -4/16.

—April 11, Tue., 5-7 pm, Abby Assefa (digital artist, marketing and design specialist) presenting and talking about her digital art and digital series, “Sexism in Comics”; http://www.abbyaart.com.

Sexism in Comics:
This series was inspired by a trip I took to a comic book store in Roseville. As I walked through the aisles I was shocked to see the stark difference in how the women were portrayed versus men. Always highly sexualized, from their expressions to their poses to the clothes (not) on their backs. While men were always drawn heroic, proud and strong. I vented to my partner the whole drive back, plotting my artistic revenge. I posted my own updated version of the Joker online and received overwhelming feedback to create more, so I did and thus this series was born.

#WHOLELOTTA 🔥🔥 — 🎯Song Name: “Mercy” (🎹Prod. @martinzbeats) — 🎯Artist: @cjpittsmusic (MUSIC AVAILABLE ON ALL STREAMING PLATFORMS!)

🖼: @abbyaart

〽️Birth Sign: Gemini ♊️

💎Q+A:
📚: “In Mercy” you said “He who finds a wife, finds a good thing”, and I see that you’re married, congratulations! With that being said, how did you know you found a good thing?
👤 @cjpittsmusic: “You just kind of know. It’s a special and distinct feeling you have when you’re around that person, and forever doesn’t seem like task, but an adventure. I knew I found someone to build with, and we’d have each other’s back through thick and thin”.

👾Fun Fact(s): “I love to play sports and that was my passion before diving into music”.

📚Fav Quote: “Let dreamers dream” (something I live by)
