Last winter was not a normal deployment. Sure, standard exploration bike riding around base, but to be tasked to take a jet to an air show? Let alone, have @abbybiedenbach say absolutely and fly out to Saudi Arabia to join for the week in Riyadh. Can’t ask for a more adventurous and loving wife. Little did we know, a week later, things would change dramatically….#worlddefenseshow It was a bit strange walking around the World Defense Show in uniform and interacting with defense sales teams from all over the world, US, Europe, Turkey, China, Russia, Pakistan, South Korea and many more. The Russians were not particularly friendly. 😂

Feeling very overwhelmed in all of the best ways. 🥲

First, thank you to everyone that has supported us through this transition. Thank you for your kind words, your bookings, and most importantly, your friendship!!!! I truly feel like I have some of the best clients in the world.

Second, I want to thank each and every person that came to our grand opening. Your presence alone meant everything to us. We received some of the most thoughtful gifts and soooo many flowers. Your continued support makes each and every hurdle and obstacle in being a business owner worth it.

Third, I’d love to extend a very special thank you to those that helped make the grand opening possible. @heidi_sauls64, @claire_louise_lives, and @samii.holland things would have NOT come together without you. You are powerhouses and we feel so grateful to have you behind us. @nataliecapps, you are an angel sent from above and the most consistent friend I’ve ever seen anyone have. Rachel is the most lucky to call you her best friend.

To my two best friends, I am so grateful to know you and more importantly, to live out this dream with you. I could not ask for better people to do this with. I love you guys more (and our villages!!!!) more than I could ever express.

It’s so crazy to see how much we’ve built a community that encompasses all of the ideals that we strive for in our lives: compassion, empathy, and genuine kindness. We love yall so much!!!!

The where you were phone photo montage brought back our riding adventures last year while I was on a mission to Poland for NATO tanker support. Jet lag no matter, we explored the mountainous Jelenia Gora region in southern Poland. As luck would have it, one of the weekends had a UCI gravel race and Decathlon rents decent gravel bikes. Few parts swaps for fitment and a hotel room tubeless conversion later….Last summer was rather different than this.

Said see ya later to some wonderful friends! Kyle was the best host. Keith and Ruth accompanied us for the first 20 miles out of town. Man, it’s hard to leave this place!

The rollers on this section were steep but perfectly spaced to give you the best boost up the next one. Not much red dirt out this way, but that’s okay.

Got caught in a 15 minute rainstorm. I put my CampSnap away but apparently not soon enough. Sooo yeah, I killed another camera 🤦‍♀️ Going to get my hands on another tomorrow and will be much more careful!

The smooth roads conditions and social interaction likely helped, but gosh, I had really good legs today. I spent a good deal of time thinking about how proud I am of what my body can do right now. I also had a moment of sadness for all the previous versions of myself when I’ve been discontent with how this vessel has performed or looked.

A little short for words again today, but that’s what I’ve got for ya. Crossing into Kansas next!

I rode from the Mexican border to roads I know and people I love!! Just thank you so much to everyone who came out to share miles and laughs and splash through the creek with me. I felt cared for in such a deep way that it’s hard to explain. All my love to y’all!!

Each spring we round up some girlfriends, book a quirky Airbnb and go play in the dirt.

We spent the last few days riding out of Cushing, OK. The fields were blanketed with paintbrush. The drivers and folks we talked to at the gas stations were the most friendly we’ve ever encountered. We rode a mix of red dirt, twisty oil roads, and quiet pavement. We logged around 250 miles over 4 days.

On Saturday we had planned a side quest ride to McMurtry for the Bobby’s Burgers pop-up at a mountain bike race. It was canceled for trail damage from a storm. After voicing my disappointment to @unlearnpavement he threw a burger party for us after the Monday night Stillwater group ride!

I think we all needed this, but for me it was a great way to shake out some equipment and nerves. The Great Plains Gravel Route starts in 2 weeks!

Kansas is flat! I take back every time I’ve argued otherwise. 17k feet of climbing in 146 miles?! It would take twice the distance to get that elevation back home.

Appalachia in spring is BEAUTIFUL and smells SO GOOD! And partnering up with @abbybiedenbach for the @theappalachianjourney county traverse was such a special way to experience Virginia for the first time.

Abby and I shared 90 miles before she’d had enough (She’s a badass who just has a lot going on at the moment!) Thankfully, I was able to catch up to @kaylareneehall and @ecology_of_absence to form a trio of @otsocycles to finish up the last few fun hours into the night. Good times with great gals from start to finish!!

As it’s getting late in the year, figured it was a decent time to start catching things up. Back in the Spring, @abbybiedenbach and I ventured to one of our most favorite places, the Ouachita Mountains of Arkansas, for what might be the last running of the @theouachitachallenge race. We are sad to see it go! The race is properly hard with 60 mile mountain bike epic first and 60 mile gravel race on day 2. Double podium for team ShalekBriski as we both finished 2nd overall for the combined two days of racing.
