I hosted a healing dance party. Because I needed it. Because I knew others needed it. My 49 y/o knees aren’t happy about it But my soul is Community with these gals has been GOOD for me; they represent: Lots of broken hearts-both recent and past (boys are stupid) Big T Trauma and ongoing trauma therapy Loss of a sibling at the age of 5 Miscarriages and the pain that comes with those Anxiety and stress related health issues that send you to the hospital And so much more We know we look silly (ok I LOOK SILLY) We want to give you permission to be silly. Turn on some music and dance with your people. For more than 20 years I have regarded Don Henley’s Heart of the Matter to be the best song ever written. It’s a hot take maybe. But spare me your opinions on this. I’m right. Let’s move on. For my entire adult life when I am in a situation where we have a live musician taking requests - I always request Heart of the Matter. For more than 20 years my requests have been met with rejection. Occasionally, someone will offer to play End of the Innocence - but I am not necessarily a Don Henley fan. I love this specific song. Finally, in 2022 at the Pearl Hotel bar, I requested it and I told him the whole story. He got it. He played it. He nailed it. My heart is full.
