La Escuelita Verde, or The Little Green School, commits to requiring and providing respirators at functions. We reject COVID denialism and we reject any ongoing harmful narratives that continue to exclude disabled-Black, Indigenous, and racialize POC from the environment. Our land stewardship practices are rooted in the idea of Una Milpa En Común, or One Parcel in Common. A call for caring and stewarding land and sharing food/seeds in ways that are accessible to our bodies and the environment. 🌧️ We rely on rain to feed our fields 🫘 we save and use seed that will grow with the annual rain. (maize, a variety of beans, and marigolds I.e.) 👩🏽‍🌾 we distribute, share and harvest seeds, plants, food, and resources with neighbors, friends, and community. 🦠 We share relevant public information on environmental hazards like air pollution and airborne diseases. 🕸️ We meet the needs of our participants by creating and faciliting spaces that are accesible to those joining our spaces. Follow our journey!

👩🏾‍🌾🫜🦋This weekend the Climate Justice & Arts Teaching Artist Cohort Clara and Bee @abeja.explorando and YCS Program Stewards gaby and Irina @irinazadov co-facilitated a Nature-Based Arts Workshop for community gardeners with NeighborSpace @neighborspace. We discussed the Young Cultural Stewards ecosystem of programs, our values and pedagogy, shared the Indigenous philosophy of the Honorable Harvest, and modeled an ArtSeed lesson plan through which participants were able to imagine and co-create their Dream Gardens. Some of the guiding questions that inspired the workshop include: - Who is the garden for? - What plants do you want to sow? - Which ones are staying from last season? - Who will eat from your garden? - What programming do you dream of running? - Who are you connecting with? - How will young people exist in this space? - Where in the universe will your garden float? Workshop participants created gorgeous and magical gardens the included: - waterfalls and fountains 🌊⛲️ - butterfly sanctuaries 🦋🌸 - garden drag shows 👠💅🏾🍒 - intergenerational programming 👵🏼👴🏽👧🏽👦🏾 - soil remediation & pollinator gardens 🌻🐝 - snails and prehistoric gardens 🐌🌵🏜️ 📸 by @irinazadov & @createwithyari

🌍🌺🦋*small is all* has begun! Kicking off the spring season with the theme on Mending and Building, facilitators and youth took time to reflect and define what mending and building means to us. Youth were introduced a into this season’s lesson - from book binding to weaving and from planting seeds to sewing. We enjoyed our time together by sipping on hibiscus tea and learning about plants that are similar and related to hibiscus like okra. 📚🧶🍵🌿 We ended our first evening together by unboxing our materials, reflecting on the materials origin, and create gratitude cards to show our appreciation. 🎁🎨🪴 Facilitators: Gaby, Bee, Saraí, and Clara
