Headed back to Donner Summit to teach the youth after the best summer of my life. I feel so grateful for this path of chasing rivers, the purpose and direction it gives me in life, and most importantly, the people I get to share these experiences with.

Season opener of 49 to Bridgeport happened last weekend! Started off the year with three laps with @boofstorks! Lap 2 we had 16 people in the group, just about every class 5 kayaker in the state.

On our first lap Louis and I got out right above one of our favorite rapids in the heart of the gorge and left a small Abel memento. If you looks on the rock on the left right above the lip on big titty melt down you’ll see a small key chain; give it a splash as you paddle by. We love you and miss you @abeldaugherty ❤️

I’m going to miss laying down next to you, chopping game and listing to the river until we fall asleep. Then waking up in the morning, eating breakfast and crushing the best whitewater the world has to offer. Thank you for all the amazing time and amazing memories Abel. I’ll be paddling twice as hard and twice as fast to carry on for the both of us. I’ll appreciate every moment in the canyons we shared all of our best memories in and wish you could see all the ones you never got to. I love you buddy ❤️

Of course the easy question to ask is why certain things happen, yet that question sometimes seems impossible to answer. In the meantime I’m reminding myself of how lucky many of us are that got to share time and experiences with such genuine and terrific human! This photo is from the ‘secret pothole eddy’ in Mushroom Rapid. Understandably, I have gotten very few takers over the years when asking friends if they wanted to join me in a secret eddy mid-class 5 rapid. Abel was one of those few who would jump at the chance to take on a new challenge when ever given the chance. That spirit and that energy was infectious! In all the best ways! We all have these countless stories about Abel. They will always help me think of ways to keep that stoke paying forward! Gonna miss you, buddy!

Thank you to everyone that came out yesterday to remember our friend Abel Daugherty. He loved the river more then anyone and I’m so happy we could all come together and spend time in his favorite place doing his favorite thing. He’ll be bringing us all together again and again for the rest of our lives. I love you Abel. You’ll be with me everyday on and off the river buddy❤️

Abel’s official celebration of life is on October 23rd at Camp Lotus at 1pm!
