If you’ve ever been a head coach, you know your first group of athletes holds a permanent spot in your heart. 🤍

I have been so fortunate to have coached many amazing groups of kids, but there is something about my “Firsties” that will always be so special. They were the ones who helped me build the plane while we were flying it. They walked so every group after them could run. They laid the foundation for a phenomenal program, set the standard, and rose to every single challenge I put in front of them.

Coming in, I did things differently than they had ever experienced. Change can be hard, but in a moment where they could have pushed back or been hesitant, these athletes chose to trust me. They chose to believe in the vision, jump into the deep end, and make my job a total joy.

They were resilient, driven, and the absolute definition of passionate. They were patient with me as I learned the ropes, and honestly, they taught me more about leadership, love, and loyalty than any coaching manual ever could.

To my Firsties: Thank you for being the foundation. Thank you for being authentically yourselves, for keeping me on my toes, and for going along (almost blindly!) with every crazy idea I had. My first year wasn’t perfect, but because of you, it was memorable, full of growth, and so much fun. I am forever grateful for that year—the athletes, the parents, the staff, the admin and all the moments in between.

I’ll never forget it.

P.S. Let’s also never forget the time @brooke.lowden and I almost burnt down the school… but hey, it was the best dang firework show anyone had ever seen.
