Soft Gradient

When the city skyline is seen from the right elevation around half an hour before sunrise, the colours can be simply spectacular!

The lower levels of the tallest skyscrapers take on the warm tones of the new day, which gradually gives way to the cool hues of the surrounding blue hour sky💙

The lushly verdant foliage of the Botanic gardens creates a vibrant demarcation line between the blue river surface and those golden shimmers of the CBD beyond, balancing the view to perfection🌿

Smoke haze from winter burn-offs generates a thin band of pink/purple along the horizon line whilst the ambient lighting on the riverhub docks and Kangaroo Point bridge only add the the plethora of intense colour at this time of the day 🌤️

Something that never fails to amaze me is how photogenic the cityscape is with its eclectic mix of building heights and façades, shapes and placement... This city looks beautiful from practically any angle

How was that cold change yesterday just before lunchtime!? I was working on the forklift in the yard at work when the rain arrived, which initially was not a concern - but then the westerly wind picked up and the temperature plummeted by about ten degrees in moments❄️

Thankfully I had my beanie and heavy work coat handy, but it was still a rather chilly afternoon to spend outside!

Happily it's looking to be another picture perfect winter day in the city, with sunshine and a balmy 25° top👌

Hazy Days

The stunning Brisbane skyline at approximately ten minutes before dawn is definitely something that I will never grow tired of photographing📷

Even when there are almost no clouds to be seen, the faint smoke haze in an otherwise clear winter sky can still create an absolutely gloriously vibrant sunrise ☀️

Add in the verdant green of the beautiful Botanic gardens to the foreground and every colour of the rainbow is visible from above

If you look closely at the portion of the sky here to the left of frame, you can make out the almost imperceptible layers of haze - most likely originating from back burning in wooded areas around the south east🔥

Every winter Council conducts hazard reduction burns across the greater Brisbane region. Planned burning on Council land helps maintain the health of forests, and lessen the impact of bushfires

These burns aim to reduce the amount of fire fuel, such as dead wood and underbrush across 60 - 80% of the land being burned. Of course, sections of active forest are left untouched to create wildlife refuges, and to provide seeds to help regenerate the burnt areas🌳

A quick check today shows that there is an active smoke alert for The Gap, Upper Kedron, Ferny Grove, and Keperra, with elevated particulate levels being recorded across the broader city...

If you are a regular user of the Mount Coot-tha walking tracks: check their status on council's website, and reduction burns are more than likely occurring now!

If you're heading out I'd recommend you take your 🌂 as we are expecting some light rain for most of the day. (I enjoyed some refreshing but very cold 🌧️ yesterday on my commute home - there was no prediction of such when I left for work, opting for the simple joy of riding to work)
