There’s only a few more hours to see ‘Material Alchemists’, Wallpaper’s group show at Triennale di Milano, put on during Milan Design Week, this week.

The exhibition brings together the work of 20 emerging designers from around the world, who each have a proclivity for material exploration and expression in their practice.

A look at Abid Javed’s sculptural collection with LES.

With a background in Molecular Biology, Javed’s collections bring in the unseen world to the forefront. Subject matters explored include cells to molecules, together with influences from islamic art & geometry, translated in to sculptural language via an abstract lens.

MATTER and SHAPE (2025)

Abid Javed is a ceramic sculptor and designer, creating collectible “molecular objects”.
With a background in Molecular Biology, the collections bring in the unseen world to the forefront. The studio practice takes an abstract/surrealist approach to create a sculptural landscape inspired by biology and biological narratives. The primary materials used is clay, which is then often juxtaposed and combined with other craft materials such as bronze, glass and paper to realise new compositions and designed for unique interior spaces.
