Been eating knuckle sandwiches lately, but thanks to a kind God and loving friends/family (and therapy thank you Jesus for my therapist), the taste hasn’t stolen my joy✨

{said knuckle sammies not included, trying to focus on the joy here okayyyy}

✨We moved✨ photo dump, plus a short form journal entry. 🫶🏼 Our Beaumont goodbye was bittersweet as all are. Seeing our Central Drive cottage empty after so many good years kind of knocked the wind out of me. I forgot what it was like to move! We’re a month and a half in and it wasn’t until settling in (ish) that we realized, as special as our first owned home was, this one will be the perfect canvas for whatever is coming next. We’re so grateful for our family and family of friends who made this transition smooth as velvet grass.

Got to take a family trip to Washington DC with the fam a few weeks ago. I learned that the national mall is apparently just a big field of grass 🤷🏻‍♂️

Abstract Postman Portrait
30”x40”
Acrylic on canvas

Growing up a print of Van Gogh’s Portrait of the Postman hung on my moms bedroom wall. Besides some brass/cast iron horse statues this is the only other art I remember from our farm house. The roof was leaky, the walls were taped, bedded but not textured or painted beyond 10 ft tall(I think the ceilings were 20ft tall). My mom was adamant that she liked the unfinished wooden counter tops where she wrote important numbers and addresses in sharpie like a Rolodex and would paint over them with teal paint when they were no longer needed. I’d grocery shop in my grandmas pantry for the summer, and tie wet sheets with a fan to the bottom of the bed to keep cool. At my dads growing up I felt like a different person with all of these wants met and beyond. The stark difference in lifestyles made me feel like neither lifestyle was mine and the chasm between realities was so deep that I still struggle to reconcile all that I have with all that I don’t, often feeling like I should do a lot more, yet be present and grateful for what I have. I freeze, do less than I should then feel shame for what I didn’t accomplish. I choose friends who remind me in prayer that God is present the same if I’m frozen or in motion, and sometimes freezing doesn’t mean you’re frozen, you just need a rest to bring some color back to your cheeks. This week despite feeling frozen me and little abigayle painted through fear, frustration, joy and hope to bring a childhood memory to new light. I hope you look to both faces of reality and are encouraged by both to courageously keep going. The act of painting lightens my spirit, and without it I struggle to process my inner feelings and intentions. The art of others also helps me feel what I try to hide from myself and this album by Bilmuri has helped me process this year:) I highly encourage you to create because what you make will inspire others. I really enjoyed doing an abstract art study of Portrait of the Postman Joseph Roulin, I pray you’re able to connect with it personally as well.
