Guess what!

Our experimental side project album is on the Grammy Ballot?!

Aux Natchitoches is an ancient Louisiana dirge, that was first recorded a cappella in a field recording.

Martin, Shay, Conner, and Jenn/Dusky and I started exploring this song at a harvest cookoff/ jam at my house. I kept finding this song calling to me, at times haunting and at time daydreamy….. So I finally invited 10 musician friends to come together and record interpretations of the song... alive and unrehearsed at St. Peter and Paul.

The album has 4 tracks: 1) Instrumental, 2) Vocal + Instrument improv 3) Drone 4) A closer reinterpretation of the traditional song with choir, fiddle, and bass.

Here’s the musicians who came together for the experiment.

Martin Masakowski
Marie-Isabelle Evangeline (‘t Marie & Bayou Juju)
Jenn Jeffers (Dusky Waters)
Shay Nichols, Sean Walsh (Eos, Laylum)
Ameilia Lormand (Miss Morning Music)
Emily Thibodeaux
Jeff Boston
Ruby Ross (Trendafilka)

Thanks Alex Levy for recording the session and mixing track 4. Thanks Adam at Marigny Studios for mixing and mastering

Hi Friends!

We are having a one-time only concert for a drone, acoustic, improv, collaborative, concept album... What a mouth-ful!

Aux Natchitoches is an ancient Louisiana dirge, that was first recorded a cappella in a field recording. Martin, Shay, Conner, and Jenn/Dusky and I started exploring this song at a harvest cookoff/ jam at my house. In May, we got together and recorded different interpretations of the song... alive and unrehearsed at St. Peter and Paul.

The album has 4 tracks: 1) Instrumental, 2) Vocal + Instrument improv 3) Drone 4) A closer reinterpretation of the traditional song with choir, fiddle, and bass.

Here’s the musicians who came together for the experiment.

💿 New Album! 💿 So excited! 💖
Once upon a time at a Fig Cookoff & Jam Martin, Shay, and Jenn/Dusky and I explored this Cajun dirge in my living room. Ever since then the invitation to explore the depths and horizons of this song has beckoned to me.

I’m so grateful to the 10 people who came together to dive into a cappella and improv in an empty cathedral.

Come check out what we made together!

#throwback to one of a thousand beautiful days on Royal Street with the @secondhandstreetband. We are so lucky and thankful to have a free public space like the Royal Street Pedestrian Mall in our backyard, where we can share in music and dancing with people from all over the world, every single day.
