Generative AI is accelerating music creation, bringing an unprecedented volume of content into an already crowded marketplace. For artists and independent music businesses, that raises important questions: How do listeners discover music in an increasingly saturated landscape? How is music valued? And how can artists build sustainable careers as the economics of streaming continue to evolve?

At the same time, streaming platforms are rethinking their business models, experimenting with new pricing structures, artist-centric payouts, AI-driven personalization and ways to engage and monetize superfans.

At MAKE IT MUSIC 2026, industry leaders will examine how these changes are reshaping the streaming marketplace, and what they mean for artists, rights holders and independent music businesses.

As part of WIN’s 20th anniversary celebrations, we’re revisiting the special edition of our WIN Annual Report 2025–26 featuring voices from across the network.

In this interview, @a2im CEO Ian Harrison shares his thoughts on what independence means in 2026, the importance of protecting the infrastructure that supports the independent sector, and the power of working together globally.

🗨️ “Independents are built inside the cultures and genres they serve, so investing in new artists isn’t a strategy, it’s the reason we exist. That closeness produces constant invention in business models, marketing, and the music itself, out of passion, necessity, or usually both. A structure answering to public markets can’t hold risk that long. Ours can, and long-term artist development takes exactly that endurance.”

@brasil.calling @abmi_oficial
