WHAT WE CARRY FORWARD

What began as a journey through Croatia for Fashion Forward Co-Founder & Chief Curator Jordana Guimaraes, her mother and three sisters to celebrate her mother’s 70th birthday became an unexpected study in inheritance, memory and the traditions we choose to preserve.

Across Dubrovnik, Hvar, Stari Grad and Split, they encountered people keeping culture alive not by freezing it in time — but by cooking it, growing it, adapting it, sharing it and passing it on.

A grandmother still making pasta by hand.

Vegetables grown in a family garden.

A father and son tending their olive trees.

A childhood memory transformed into a dish described as “three generations inside one tiny cup.”

Centuries-old cooking traditions still alive today.

And on the final evening, a 125-year-old stone gathering place in Upper Podstrana unexpectedly transported Jordana’s mother back to memories of her great-aunt’s home in Lebanon.

Different countries. Different generations.

A familiar way of gathering.

What began as a birthday journey became a story about what survives — and what we choose to carry forward.

Because fashion is constantly asking:

We booked this reservation all the way from New York because we knew we had to experience it.

Situated within the ancient walls of Dubrovnik’s Old Town, Above 5 is home to the only 360 degree intimate rooftop terrace in the city. And honestly, the setting alone is unforgettable.

We had the pleasure of meeting the chef, who prepared our five-course tasting menu and took the time to share his inspiration and passion for cooking with us.

Now for the food 👇🏻

01. Beet Bomb, Crispy Carbonara, & Fish ‘n’ Chips.
Everything in one bite. A burst of flavor.

02. Sourdough, leek butter & chicken skin butter. The bread was baked to perfection but the butters? Just wow.

03. Ceviche. Genuinely one of the freshest and most flavorful ceviches I’ve ever had.

04. Chilli Prawns. I’ve never been the biggest prawn fan… until these. A serious game changer.

05. Beef Tenderloin. Incredibly tender and quite literally melted in my mouth.

06. Rack of Lamb. Another winner. Tender, flavorful, and beautifully prepared.

07. Sea Bass. Genuinely phenomenal.

08. Peach Melba. I take dessert very seriously, and when I tell you I devoured this… Lime infused peaches, vanilla and yogurt ice cream, raspberry sorbet. The perfect way to end dinner.

The food exceeded our expectations, the atmosphere was elegant and peaceful, and watching the sunset over Dubrovnik from the rooftop was one of those moments you don’t forget.

We stumbled upon a hidden cave bar tucked away from the crowds. 👀

The cave is way bigger than you’d expect, with a gorgeous bar hidden inside. And yes, they have a huge list of mocktails too. ☺️

Great vibes and one of those places you wouldn’t expect to find.

Upstairs at the restaurant, I had to try their traditional dish, pljukanci, and it was such a delicious taste of the local flavors.
