👁️: consistency is the most important muscle to train

but how do you stay consistent?

i’m sure you’ve heard of the japanese philosophy called kaizen, which is the concept of small improvements compounding into major progress over time.

i think if you’re struggling to be consistent in something at the moment, maybe the task is too big for you.

i think the best way to stay consistent in something is to set a goal you KNOW and have full conviction you’ll hit on whatever frequent basis YOU set for yourself, not what the internet or others have set, but what YOU have set.

say you’re trying to stay consistent in the gym, 3x30min sessions a week is way easier to stick to than 5x1 hour sessions a week. at the beginning, in the name of consistency, prioritise building that consistency muscle over making progress toward a goal because consistency will get you any goal regardless. as you’re consistently hitting the tasks you’ve set for yourself, it gives time for it to become ingrained into your identity decreasing the friction in completing that task because your brain has now normalised it. it’s all about limiting the friction of completing a task. even on days when it’s difficult or you’re strapped for time, ask yourself: how much could you contribute? in this case, it may just be walking to a place instead of taking public transport or shortening down your session. transcend the idea of a contribution being “too small”. it’s way better to have contributed something over nothing. the name of the game is building that consistency muscle and sticking to the program over making progress because the hurdle of getting back on routine after falling off is often the pitfall for a lot of people trying to stay consistent.

over time, speed up that progress by increasing the input to a level you have full confidence in maintaining. repeat the process, stay patient and play the long game.
