It’s an end of an era! This Monday marked my 5 year anniversary of living in NYC! It also coincided with my first Monday in almost 4 years where I did not step foot into the Columbia/Sony Office. This is my post to officially announce that I’ve made the decision to leave Columbia & pursue freelance production full time! Though not planned, the timing of both things being so close together feels very significant. It’s not a Yessmeen post without yapping lol so -

I moved to NYC 5 years ago & like many people - I was a young person with big dreams!! The summer after I graduated college, I booked a one way plane ticket to NYC - I had no real idea of what waited for me in the big city - I had only been to New York once as a kid & my memories are just fragments of larger moments. I moved here with no job, no apartment, in the middle of COVID (lol) and in two weeks, got myself a barista job, found my friends and I an apartment, and started to just… figure it out!! Which is what I’ve realized most of your adult life really is. No one knows anything. We all just feel compelled to do things & then we… figure it out! And what a life this past 5 years has been. If I told Yessmeen 5 years ago the many things I’ve been up to, including getting to work at a major record label - they would not believe it haha.

All of this to say, I’ve made the decision to leave Columbia Records and pursue freelance producing / video production work. Feels like a big leap and something that I can’t lie and say I’m not a little nervous about, but I am reminded of younger Yessmeen who took such a big leap too!! Who knows where the next 5 years of life can take me? I hope I always know how and when to choose myself. So thankful for all the people I’ve met and the things I’ve learned so far & excited for all the ways I will continue to grow and all the opportunities that await! Please hit me up if you want to catch up /just chat about life or if you wanna discuss anything creative hehe. Need to update my website and all that, so more coming soon but eee - I am officially available for work!!
Now pls enjoy some pics of some of my fav columbia mems and also my walk on the first day off hahah
