A little fashion, a little personality, and a whole lot of creative expression floating around the Museum of Design Detroit.

Shoutout to Autumn Russell for helping bring the creative direction together, and to our venue sponsor, Museum of Design Detroit, for giving us such a beautiful space to create in.

Everybody looked good. That’s really the caption. lol.

A room where people could just show up. Create. Talk. Laugh. Be vulnerable. Be weird. Be loud. Be quiet. Perform. Listen. And pour into somebody else while doing it.

No pretending. No perfect stories. Just real people creating through real life.

I cannot wait for y’all to meet these creatives and hear their stories.

13 creatives. 3 parts. 1 story.

Creating Through Chaos.

Photos from the Golden Hour fotowalk back in June! This was a good time with a cool group of individuals! We got split up so I didn’t get a group shot but I still wonder what everyone else’s shots looked like that day! I always wonder…

More shots from the @heidelbergproj fotowalk! Had a good turnout despite the weather! Had a great time meeting new photographers! The community is growing and the network of photographers is growing as well! Every walk fosters new connections and bridges the gap between more creatives! Maybe I’ll see you at the next one?!?!

I was told you don’t build community, you create space for it! This is me holding space for every photographer I meet to learn, grow, and enjoy what makes us happy! Whether you shoot film, digital, on a phone, or point and shoot! None of that matters. The only thing that does is the feeling you joy you get when you press the shutter! Everyone here is one of us. There is no separation! If you know me and have ever been on one of these walks then you know I’m just grateful to be surrounded by people who choose to be here! Here’s to a year of being consistent and showing up for myself first and others second, through the grief, heart ache, bad weather, and everything else in between! Year 1 is in the books! I love you all! Peace!

DAY TWO. 🖤

We made space to remember.
To listen to the stories that brought us here.
To honor the people whose lives and legacies continue to shape Detroit.
To gather in community.
To celebrate what has been carried forward — and imagine what we will carry next.

Day Two of the Black Bottom | Black Legacy Festival was a reminder that gathering can be sacred, that memory is a form of care, and that our stories are worthy of being held.

Preserve the Past. Document the Now. Create the Future.

A little look back at Day Two. 🖤

A huge thank you to our funders from helping us bring this vision to life!! @michcommresources

DAY ONE

What a way to kick off the Black Bottom | Black Legacy Festival.

A day full of memory, movement, storytelling, art, learning, laughter, and community. Day One reminded us exactly why we do this work.

We came together to Preserve the Past. Document the Now. Create the Future.

And baby, we did ALL three.

Here’s a little bit of the magic from Day One. 🖤🌟

✨Black Bottom Archives’ Black Legacy Fellowship has held my Saturday mornings hostage for months now 😂 but never was there a meeting I didn’t enjoy.

They were proactive, communicative, transparent, and intentional in their approach. Black Bottom Archives pushed me deeper into the role of what it means to be a storyteller. From story to archive. From telling to preserving. From documenting what is happening now to thinking about what we are leaving behind.

Thank you @belovedmemorywrk, @hecallsmeflora, and @ifayomi_ 🖤 Y’all kept the assembly moving and were so gentle with us throughout this process. Thank you for your dedication to this work and your willingness to keep pushing it forward in the most authentic way you could muster up. Y’all the bee’s knees. 🐝

Special S/O to @not.deangelus for being that extra help whenever I felt stuck or overwhelmed in process.

When your friend asks if the “Butter Queen” has something for her skin… and then casually turns it into a commercial. 😂🤎

THIS is the kind of support that I ＬＯＶＥ. Like, I didn’t ask her to make an ad- she just knew lol🥹 Appreciate your support + love for GOOD butta @abstract_jazz
