In my Solo Show @barbican_centre @barbicanandcommunitylibraries this month I juxtapose two bodies of work: those made from music and those made in silence. This wall features two Synaesthesia works inspired by the hauntingly beautiful music of @timeforthree which Montreal artist @abstractjg127 introduced me to and which I teamed up with my hand ground Sumi ink work Constructive Conversation on the right with its curvy stave like lines connected two friends. It was an absolute pleasure to share my show together with fellow London based artist Maya and talk about our visions for the future, our present anxieties and how our past is an integral part of our artistic consciousness. We also discussed my autopoietic processes of making the Sumi works - a kind of deep dive into my subconscious which through the curation of this show - and with conversations like that I had today - I’m able to grow as an artist. Thanks so much to Maya #artist #art #arte

“Tropical adventure” - I am longing for travel, summer and adventure. I found a glimpse of that last night, while working with my wonderful zoom group of artists in Italy, France, Canada and SA, surrounded by a selection of tropical fruit from an extravagant grocery shop. The prompt was to start from a rough drawing of fruit and then abstract this or at least capture an expression of the subject matter. The group usually works from a subject matter and this is the methodology of most of the artists. I however rarely work like this - I work from within - and find the subject matter after the fact - giving a work a title after the fact. The subject matter comes after the expression and this is something I wrote about in a published article in https://com/issue-32-writing-pattern-power - in issue 33 “Life of Lines”. However last night, I followed Martine’s prompt and began with a quick charcoal sketch and worked into the second watercolour. This first image was the final evocation when the prompt was over and I had time left before we all shared our work…For me this way of working is the most intuitive and spontaneous. It requires one to suspend belief and trust that the work will evolve. It’s a bit like walking blindfolded, working by touch and smell or rather seeing within oneself. #autopoeitic #abstract #abstraction #abstractpainting #abstractart #watercolor #watercolour #watercolors #watercolours #watercolorpainting #watercolourpainting #watercolourart #peinture #contemporarypainting #contemporaryart #womenartists #britishart #collaboration #friendship #womensupportingwomen #artcurator #process #holiday #travel #fruits #stilllife
