Happy #EarthDay2020 from our team to yours! Our belief in walkable, sustainable communities is shared by many Alhambrans.

Residents deserve the convenience of working, shopping and enjoying leisure time closer to home for improved health, wellness and overall quality of life. Our project is designed to complete the vision at The Alhambra campus for a community that mixes residential with office, retail and open space in a single campus to live, work and be inspired.

One of California's leading environmental groups, the Sierra Club, even updated their urban infill development policy in 2019 to advocate that "an essential strategy for reducing urban related carbon emissions is supporting dense, mixed-use communities and land uses that prioritize walking, biking or transit to meet daily transportation needs, as well as balancing jobs and housing within the region." Policy leaders across California are recognizing the benefits of redevelopment to create more walkable communities and reduce per-capita greenhouse gas emissions.

A great piece from the folks at Up For Growth: “This anti-density argument is as misguided as it is simple. In reality, cities aren't the problem. But they can be part of the solution to solving the inequities laid bare by COVID-19."

🏡Are you safe at home? We've got things to do while social distancing:
1) STAY INFORMED - The status of COVID-19 is constantly changing, and it is important that we stay up-to-date with reliable information to ensure the safety of our loved ones. Latest Info: www.covid19.ca.gov
.
2) SUPPORT ALHAMBRA BUSINESSES - The Alhambra Chamber of Commerce created a delivery and take-out guide of local restaurants offering you alternatives while the social distancing order is in place. Let’s support our local small businesses as the economy is impacted. Local Restaurants: bit.ly/AlhambraTakeOut
.
3) GROW ALHAMBRA’S ECONOMY - We’re thinking about Alhambra’s long-term success as COVID-19 hits the local economy. Your support of The Villages at The Alhambra helps bring economic activity and new revenue to the City for years to come. It takes just a minute to add your name in favor of housing steps away from where Alhambrans work, dine and shop. Add Your Name: TheVillagesAlhambra.com
.
4) TELL FRIENDS & FAMILY - It takes a village to make our vision for a more walkable Alhambra come to life. Share this with your friends and family and let’s get them engaged! Repost this graphic or spread the word.

🚨URGENT -- Support needed for Hillside Villa🚨 *We just got word that City Council is voting TOMORROW on the motion to purchase Hillside Villa with eminent domain.* We need all our allies to step up share, and act for this huge moment. *There are three City Councilmembers we need you to call today. Ask if they support the motion to use eminent domain and leave a message!!! - Nury Martinez, (213) 473-7006
- David Ryu, (213) 473-7004
- Monica Rodriguez, (213) 473-7007*

Here's a script you can use:
“Hi, I’m calling in support of the Hillside Villa tenants in Chinatown. If their landlord is able to raise rents to market-rate for their expiring “affordable housing” development, there will be a mass eviction of hundreds of people, and many may end up homeless. The city needs to stop this from happening -- we need to keep families in their homes.

Gil Cedillo has introduced a motion for the city to purchase the building with eminent domain. City Council will vote tomorrow to get that process started.

Does Counclimember _______ support that motion?” #housingisahumanright #housingcrisis #affordablehousing #evictionmoratorium #rentstrike #eviction #lacity #lacitycouncil #coronavirus #lacityhall

#TBT to the large manufacturing building demolished in 1963 to make way for what is now The Alhambra campus. In the 1980s, CF Braun & Co. was sold to Sante Fe International, which continued to operate at The Alhambra site. By 1989, Sante Fe International sold the property to The Ratkovich Company, which has since been used as a business park. Now we're proposing to complement this existing business hub with new housing steps away from where Alhambrans already work and shop!

Did you know that a lack of housing options causes rents to rise? As a result, our low-income and elderly fixed-income neighbors are put at risk for displacement. Thank you to one of our many supporters for speaking up on this important dialogue!
