Dear Xanthe,
I can’t believe it’s been a year since we lost you. Parts of this weekend were so hard, it felt like I was reliving it all over again and losing you again. This year has been hard too, trying to come to terms with the fact that you are no longer here, trying to accept that I will never see you again or laugh with you or watch a Buffy episode with you or listen to your poems and get advice on my songs. I love you and have always loved you.

I just wanted to say that I miss you. I miss our calls, I miss your humour, I miss your sassy comments, I miss you at our family dinners. I have a new found appreciation for so many things you loved. I love Buffy and the fashion and the outfits. I love peaches Prc. I love the whimsy goth aesthetic, I love witchy magical fairycore things, I am starting to love halloween. I love country music. We watched parks and recreation and I loved that. I have also started volunteering with horses. They make me feel grounded and calm and connected to you. I do feel connected to you even though you are gone. I carry you with me every single day.

Love you so much and miss you 🤍

Isn’t it interesting that after nearly 23 years with a condition you might expect to diminish my body, in some ways I actually feel more?
More feeling inside and outside my body. More intuition. More focus. I listen better. I communicate better. I pay attention. I challenge myself and welcome new experiences like this one with @accessadventureofficial
Why? I don’t know exactly.
Maybe because living in this body requires me to.
I work out regularly. I stand. I practice breathwork and meditation. I eat about 90% organic and grass fed. And don’t even get me started on my morning and nighttime skincare routines. Think MANY steps. 😂
None of this makes me immune to pain, aging or the realities of spinal cord injury. And it certainly doesn’t mean SCI somehow made me healthier.
But it has made me incredibly conscious of how I live in my body and what I put into it, onto it and around it.
I used to think transformation was something you could see.
Now I think some of the biggest transformations are the ones you can feel.
Day 22 of 30. ♿️

Our young adult students regularly spend time at Rush Ranch in Suisun helping the team and horses at Access Adventure. During a recent trip, our students cleaned out the round pen used by the resident horses. After putting in the work, everyone took time to reset with a quiet nature walk around the ranch, practicing mindfulness and enjoying the peaceful views. Days like these go beyond learning practical skills. Getting outside to help others builds confidence, connection, and pride.

Thank you to @accessadventureofficial and Rush Ranch for having us!

Working with Crescent Moon Center and their Community Engagement and Program Coordinator, Vickie Tugwell, is a dream opportunity for me. It is hard to describe the depth of the experiences I witness. The participant paintings shown here do a good job reflecting it.

Collaborating with Crescent Moon Center and Vickie Tugwell is a dream opportunity for me. It is hard to describe the experience that participants encounter through these workshops with horses to inspire creativity…although their paintings shown here do a good job reflecting it. #crescentmooncenter #rushranchopenspace

Stonewall Calypso carries a quiet strength that steadies everything around her. With brave wisdom and a bold, grounded presence, she moves through the herd as both protector and mentor. Her caring nature is felt in the way she watches over others, offering calm in moments of uncertainty and confidence when it’s needed most. Calypso doesn’t demand attention, she earns trust and balances the herd with a steady, sage wisdom.

Stonewall Calypso (owned by @randieboardmanrealtor) serves as a powerful teacher and partner in Access Adventure and Crescent Moon Center's Equine-Assisted Learning workshops.

Are you interested in developing more of a relationship with the horses at Rush Ranch and training to become a horse handler for our workshops?

Meet our human-horse team during a volunteer day with Access Adventure - every 3rd Saturday.

Today was our first day this season at Enchanted Hills Blind Camp in Mt Veeder,Napa. We gave horseback rides to the blind campers with the popular Stonewall Sport Horses Calypso, Montelena & Durin. The campers had a blast, we had a blast & a couple people got massages from Calypso! Ahhhh, it feels so good!

Through the combined experience of partnering with horses, becoming aware of our breath in meditation and abstract painting, you explore metaphors which mirror your life experiences, personal growth, and self discovery.

You’ll leave this workshop feeling grounded, inspired, and empowered by the embodied experience of merging your breath and deeply listening with the horses who are holding space for you. There is a heart-felt connection with the horses who see you fully in the moment.

Learn about mindfulness, authenticity, compassion, and communication from horses; Process the experience and express yourself through painting. We provide a safe, inclusive space for participants to have guided interactions with horses that facilitate creative expression.
