Last Call. 🥃

The goal in anything temporary is to hand it to the next person in better condition than you received it. Follow the blueprint (cuz it works), but add your own razzle dazzle.

Most of all, never forget how good and how pleasant it is.

THE PACK HAS ADDED ANOTHER WOLF. 🐺

A memorable weekend for St. John’s Lodge No. 5 concluded with the raising of Brother Joel Maxwell to the Sublime Degree of Master Mason.

After making his final visit to No. 5 as a Fellowcraft on Thursday night, Brother Maxwell returned Saturday to complete his journey through the degrees and take his place among the Master Masons of this Lodge.

Welcome to the Pack, Brother. 🐺

But at No. 5, becoming a Master Mason is about more than reaching a destination. It is about becoming part of something that existed before you—and accepting the responsibility to carry it forward.

Today, we closed the weekend by continuing our traditional Fellowcraft Dinner, a St. John’s No. 5 tradition dating back to 2009, built around fellowship, reflection, and Brotherhood. Across the years, Brothers have gathered around the table to celebrate the journey through the Craft and strengthen the bonds that make a Lodge more than a meeting place.

This weekend told the story of St. John’s No. 5.

We honored those who have led us.
We raised another Brother.
We preserved a tradition.
And we strengthened the Pack.

Congratulations, Brother Maxwell. Your journey is only beginning.

A GREAT NIGHT AT NO. 5. 🐺

Tonight’s Regular Communication was a reminder that some of the best nights in Masonry are simply spent together in Lodge.

The highlight of the evening was recognizing Brother Terry Williams, who was elevated to the distinguished rank of Past Master of St. John’s Lodge No. 5, while also receiving his well-earned recognition as our July Master Mason of the Month.

During one of the most uncertain periods in recent memory, PM Williams stepped forward and provided leadership to our Lodge as Acting Master during the COVID-19 pandemic. Tonight, we had the privilege of formally recognizing that service, leadership, and commitment to No. 5.

And Brotherhood has a way of bringing life full circle.

We were honored to welcome Right Worshipful Tyrell Prout of Beehive Lodge No. 66, who years ago presented our Worshipful Master, Miles Armstrong, with an academic award through the History Department at Morgan State University in 2019, as well as 66’s Senior Warden Steven Gray, a Brother with whom WM Armstrong became a Master Mason in 2011.

Years pass. Roles change. The relationships remain.

Tonight we honored leadership, witnessed progression, welcomed old friends, handled the business of the Lodge, and enjoyed the fellowship that makes this Brotherhood special.

And with a full weekend ahead of us, No. 5 is just getting started.

Today, St. John’s Lodge No. 5 proudly joins our nation in commemorating Juneteenth—the day freedom finally reached the last enslaved African Americans in Galveston, Texas on June 19, 1865.

Juneteenth is more than a celebration of emancipation; it is a reminder of the resilience, strength, and determination of those who endured and overcame unimaginable adversity. Their sacrifices paved the way for future generations to lead, serve, and build stronger communities.

As Prince Hall Masons, we honor the legacy of freedom by continuing our commitment to brotherhood, leadership, education, and service. We recognize that the work of uplifting our communities remains as important today as ever.

May we never forget the lessons of our past, the responsibilities of our present, and the promise of our future.

Happy Juneteenth from St. John’s Lodge No. 5.

Honoring the Legacy of Freedom, Leadership & Service.

The work of the lodge is strongest when experience and dedication lead the way.

Last night we had a powerful regular communication, highlighted by the successful conferral of the Entered Apprentice Degree—our continued commitment to building the future of the Craft. The evening was extremely well attended, and we were honored to welcome brothers visiting from Hannibal #8, Mt. Lebanon #22 & John A Holmes #89. Fellowship and brotherhood were on full display.

During the meeting, we also recognized two outstanding brothers as our Master Masons of the Month: Past Master Braxton Street and Past Master Lamoth Haynie. Both brothers were instrumental in the success of our recent degree work—leading practices, providing wise counsel, and helping ensure that everything came together when it mattered most. Their leadership and dedication remind us of the important role Past Masters play in strengthening the lodge and guiding the next generation of leadership.

When the work calls, our brothers always rise to the occasion. The momentum continues, and we look forward to carrying that same energy forward in the months ahead.

Consistency is built by the brothers who show up.

This month, we proudly recognize Brother Kenny Perry as our Master Mason of the Month for March. Brother Perry was selected for his dedication as an officer and his consistent presence in our communications. His willingness to serve and remain engaged helps keep the lodge moving forward, and for that we honor him.

We also had a strong regular communication this month, with great attendance and even better fellowship following the meeting. Moments like these remind us that the strength of the lodge lies not only in the work we perform, but in the brotherhood we continue to build together.

Now, our attention turns to an important milestone ahead. On April 9th, our lodge will host its first degree in over six years—a moment we are all looking forward to as we continue revitalizing the work of the Craft.

April is shaping up to be a busy and exciting month, and we’re ready for it. As always we’re still selling tickets to our Prayer Breakfast. Tickets are in our bio!!

Today we celebrate the 251st anniversary of March 6, 1775. On that day Prince Hall and 14 others were initiated into an Irish military lodge establishing the foundation for black men in the United States to become Freemasons. We salute the Immortal 15 for their contributions to the greatest organization in the world. Happy Founders Day Brothers from St. John’s Lodge #5. #SJ5 #sj5forever

Recognition is earned—and the work is seen.

We proudly recognize Brother Richard “Ricky” Hackett as our Master Mason of the Month for December. Brother Hackett was selected for his consistent participation in communications, submitting a thoughtful proposal that was later accepted, and for his all-around efforts to ensure that brotherly love is spread evenly throughout the lodge. For this work, we honor him.

This recognition also serves as a reminder: the race for Master Mason of the Year is still very much alive. From Brother Jarren setting the pace in October and November to Brother Hackett carrying that momentum forward, the standard has been set—and it remains attainable.

As we continue this Masonic year, let this inspire renewed effort and energy. Every Brother can do the work. Every Brother can be recognized. Let’s stay consistent, keep pushing, and continue striving to be the best of what Masonry has to offer here in the Maryland jurisdiction.

As we close out the year, we do so with gratitude and clear direction.

In October, I was entrusted with the honor of assuming the East. From that moment forward, the charge has not been to rebuild — but to refine. To strengthen what already exists, to sharpen our focus, and to move with discipline and intention.
In a short period of time, the Brothers of St. John’s Lodge #5 have continued meaningful work in Baltimore City, reinforced our presence in the community, and demonstrated that consistency — not spectacle — is what produces impact.

As we look ahead to 2026, our commitment remains the same: to build upon a solid foundation, to lead with purpose, and to ensure that our labor reflects both the history we inherit and the future we are responsible for.

The work continues. The vision is clear. The standard remains high.

Builders of Men. Keepers of the Community.
