I’m proud to share that I’ve completed my initial training and am now an authorized independent Self-Direction Support Broker! 💫

Self-Direction is a service model that gives people with developmental
disabilities greater authority in managing their own supports and services.

As a Support Broker, I will help people with developmental disabilities who choose to Self-Direct create and manage a Self-Direction Budget, develop a Circle of Support, assist with staff management, maintain Staff Action Plans, and find local resources that foster community inclusion and independence.

I’ve come to realize that connecting people is the thread that runs through all my professional work. In this new role, I hope to help individuals and their families better navigate social service systems and make informed choices to achieve their specific life goals. I plan to complete additional trainings, and once I feel ready, I will begin taking on clients.

I’m grateful to my cousin Debbie for her support and guidance, and to Beth for always believing in me. ❤️

As we trudge through this fairly rainy and grey week, let's harken back to last Sunday with its perfect weather for this amazing tour of "In the Wind", lead by curator @tinamanecaart highlighting all 90 (yes, ninety!) artists of this @arthouseproductions outdoor public art project! Each flag features the artist's work on one side and name and title on the other; you will learn so much about local artists checking out this exhibit on your own or joining Tina for the second tour August 23rd at 4pm...the flags are also for sale if one captures your eye/heart/imagination as you're out enjoying the park...$500 each and 100% of the proceeds go to the artist (the flags are also beautifully made, which is easier to see up close).

Many thanks to those who joined the tour, you made it more fun and asked great questions I wouldn't have thought of! 💚

We must all continue to keep calling out injustice and keep fighting for equity and inclusion unapologetically. Be safe and Be Proud!

Congratulations 🎉 to all the artists and especially to @tinamanecaart for curating another inspirational “Exquisite Corpse” exhibition. Brava! 👏👏👏

The opening @nimbusdance was a whose who of the local arts community flowing with creativity and joy. It was great to reconnect with so many friends and meet new folks. Between the art and conversation I didn’t snap many photos but I plan to go back to take in these fantastic creations while the exhibit is on view. (See hours below)

Go see this show… GO see the show!!!

Every year @tinamanecaart calls for artists to create a head, torso, or legs- whatever style they like, any medium- and then assembles them for her annual EXQUISITE CORPSE show! Over 50 artists contributed, and I was thrilled with how mine was Trio’d :) check out the gallery times at @nimbusartscenter on the last slide!
This boa was one of the first I ever bought, and I used her in the first classic piece that I created. She sheds too much to go back on stage, so this is my way of honoring her.
My piece features dozens of hand applied rhinestones, and I also burned the appliqué off its mesh by hand (thanks again @gigisurreal for the soldering iron!). The silver tassels are earrings that I bought but they’re too heavy for me to wear; the necklace is one I wore on stage dozens of times but the clasp broke. The glitter on the paint is also the same glitter I have been using on my face on stage for a decade (it’s cake glitter! Please don’t ever use regular craft glitter on your face, it can harm you badly) .
A lot of me went into this canvas; I hope you get to see it (and also all the art at the show is for şælê, if you’re interested in collecting!) .
Jersey City is so full of talent and art, and I hope that continues to thrive as the city changes.

Did some art-ing yesterday at the #ExquisiteCorpse group show opening reception at @nimbusartscenter. Over 50 artists each created a body part (in their own style) then curator @tinamanecaart combined the pieces into 20 or so new “corpses”. The show is up at Nimbus’s Firmament Gallery til June 27th.
I had a silent melody of “heads shoulders knees and toes (knees and toes)” going through my mind the whole time. Also braaaaaiiiinnnnsssss…
